Tell you all what.

To Zazu and Polar. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

To the rest of you. I apologize for disagreeing with how you feel.

I should have been more clear of exactly what I was saying and what I was disagreeing with.

Let me explain it to you this way. You are at greeter position. The child measures 1/8th on an inch too short. No big deal so you let the child in. The next person to measure sees the child at the correct height and loads the child on the ride. The person at safety postion sees the child and thinks the child looks too short. This CM asks the child to unload and measure again. This CM measures the child as 1/2 inch short. The CMs that allowed the child to get on the ride will get a safety violation. If this is the first violation they will most likely receive points. If it is the second, they will be suspended or transferred.

So 1/8 of an inch is never completely accurate when measuring a child. The child might be tall enough or as much as an inch difference. If the child measures that close to the height requirement than they are often rechecked and your 1/8 may suddenly be 1/2 for the next CM. It is certainly not worth risking your job.

Ok, so from what your saying. then even if the CM measures the child at 40 inches, they should not let them load because the safety person may re measure and get a much different result.

Which brings me back to what I said before...

Maybe Disney needs to have a height check point thats the same. Like maybe have a platform for the guest to stand on and get measured (like they do at the Doctors office).

In my experience, the biggest issue with accurate height checks is that kids that small usually don't want to ride, are damn scared, and refuse to stand up straight. Fantastic parents then get them more scared by trying to force them to stand up and getting excited, and so forth in a nasty cycle.

I do agree that it's kinda ridiculous that a tiny tiny measurement is such a big deal, but it'd be like letting someone in for $0.50 off admission cause they supposedly don't have any more money. Over the course of a day it'd add up to a TON of money and set the precedent that it's alright. Now if I had my own little kiddie amusement park on an old empty lot and wanted to be lenient, it'd be different and I probably would eat the $0.50. The most famous amusement park in the world with millions of visitors each year can't do that.

Although it sounds like a great idea, height measurement is just not that accurate. My first baby was measured as 18 inches at birth. Two days later she was 20 inches. The pediatrician said that obviously she was measured wrong at birth. But her birth certificate still says 18 inches.

Even on the doctor's scales, measurements are not always accurate. Personally, it would be great if they had a measurement when the kids entered the parks. It would take a lot of pressure off the CMs that get yelled at because "Junior has been riding Rock N Roller Coaster all week." But ultimately the CM is responsible for who they load on the rides.

LOL. You know I always hear CM's complain about a guest saying "But he rode this ride yesterday." Maybe then the CM should say "Well then consider yourself lucky that you got to ride it once . Now go find another ride."

Oy vey!!! I apologize for starting this thread :o:

Good debate going on though.

Papamouse: I agree with everyone and you are wrong. Sad to see that you would put yours/or another person's child's safety above the rules. I don't see you babysitting anyone on here's kid anytime soon.

Don't apologize Wizard! None needed as you have been on the frontlines & seen injured little ones too often. Breaks a CMs heart as we realize most of these issues could have been averted with common thought. Maybe you began a wake up call for this summer. ;)

OMFG!!! Image

It's sad to see that you would be so damn picky of such a fraction of an inch.

BTW. I wouldn't wan to babysit kids from the majority of todays parents. Most don't know the meaning of discipline. I thank God that my son is being raised to know right from wrong and to have respect for others.

I am sure kids get injured often do to stupid acts from parents. but damn come on people. For real. You all talk about stupid people on this site. but none of you are using your brains here.

Get a ruler and look at 1/8th of an inch. Now tell me that's going to kill someone.
