Re: Calm Down! It's only a Fastpass!
So I was reading another Disney message board, and i saw a post about this thread. Specifically quoting my post about the other CM I knew hitting the override button to bump up the FP times.
The person on the other board was asking what the other people thought of this. Also, he/she misunderstood what I had written about the CM telling people not to use the FP, but to just go in the regular line when it was short. The poster apparently thought that the CM would say that to people who already had FPs, telling them to just wait in the standby line! How stupid would that be!! Yeah- you have a FP in your hand that's valid right now, but, no, the standby line is short, so just go that way! Umm, okay. I don't think any CM would do that. She (the CM) would say that to people who were ABOUT to get FPs. She was trying to save them time, as well as keep our FP line down. They could ride and be done with it in about 10 minutes, then could move on to other things, instead of having to wait around and come back. AND they could get a FP for something else. Sheesh!!

Yea, I saw that, and thought, "Wasn't that on SGT?" What a moron.LucyintheSky wrote:So I was reading another Disney message board, and i saw a post about this thread. Specifically quoting my post about the other CM I knew hitting the override button to bump up the FP times.

a few CMs still do this at pan out of necessity. Usually its done when return times reach 3:30 for parade dump, since everyone that has a return start time of 2:30-3:20 storms the FP line. Otherwise our FP queue goes insane.
On days when we're not too crazy over at philhar, I suggest to people to just go in the regular entrance, since they'll probably be in the next show rather than getting a FP thats good in 45 minutes.

I don't understand why Philharmagic and other 3D shows need fastpass. There is no point, but to boost up attendance. I remember when HISTA had surprise Fast Pass with Star Tours. You might has well go through the regular entrance then to use fast pass for 3D shows, you are in the next shows anyways.bpgstudios wrote:On days when we're not too crazy over at philhar, I suggest to people to just go in the regular entrance, since they'll probably be in the next show rather than getting a FP thats good in 45 minutes.

So it sounds to me like the CM knew she was doing something wrong.LucyintheSky wrote:When I first trained, there was no FP on Pan. But VERY soon after that was when it was added (I think). I only really remember it WITH FP. Ugh.
I just remembered, there was this one girl I used to work with, when we'd open, if she was at distribution or Pan greeter, she would go to the machines and hit the override over and over and over, when no one was looking, printing out FPs, just stacks of them, and toss them in the trash, so the line wouldn't be as long!

Re: Calm Down! It's only a Fastpass!
Oh, no argument here, she did think she was doing something wrong. Because if a manager saw her, she would have been in trouble. That's why I never did it myself. But we all thought (at the time- not sure how it is now) that the machines were set to give out WAAAAY too many FPs, and the FP line would be out of control later. Making the standby line nearly at a standstill. Pan loads EXTREMELY slowly, so the line goes slow no matter what. Maybe tossing the FPs wasn't the answer, but some thought it was the only way we had of controlling the line somewhat. Plus, by persuading more people to just ride right then, that's less people in line later, when it's more crowded.

Re: Calm Down! It's only a Fastpass!
Wow, see I go away for a week or two and then come back on here to start a Fastpass thread and there's already one on here.
First, before I get into my longer rant...
Continuing on with my current rant:
Right now Fastpass at Safari's is down for refurb. (We're getting the shiny new style machines. Yay!) So for this week there is no fastpass available. As we all know, this means the standby line moves twice as fast. We've rarely had a wait over 40 minutes. However the guests are just IRATE about it. They accuse us of everything from ruining their vacation to discrimination (A very very long story involving an older guy with a titanium knee). I've had families come back numerous times during the day "just to check if it was back up yet" despite me telling them it would be back up after Saturday. Why do the guests seem to think that if there's no fastpass they can't go on the ride. And since when is 40 Minutes a long wait?

Strlnblue, we don't stop it because it really doesn't affect very much, and most of the time we don't see it. Yes, it's wrong for them to jump the line, yes we shouldn't let them. But it's much simpler for us to just let the guest on and continue loading the attraction instead of fighting with said guest and stopping the flow of the line, holding everyone back and jacking up the wait time.strlnblue wrote:And why do theme parks not stop those who cheat by forcing their way into the FP line? It happens all over DW.

Re: Calm Down! It's only a Fastpass!
Seems to me that FPs have fostered an "entitlement attitude" and an expectation that people should not have to wait over whatever predetermined time FP has subconsciously branded into their mind. Hard to believe that back in the "dark old days," people accepted hour-long lines as the status quo...they might have muttered about it and not been happy about it, but it's just the way things were. Now, having tasted "entitlement," it becomes a major stressor to be expected to actually have to...gasp...wait a whole 40 mins.
Remember a time when kids took car trips or at a meal in a restaurant without having to have a Gameboy to keep them occupied? A time when a phone call didn't have to be taken IMMEDIATELY, even if it was in church or a movie theater, because the means to do so didn't exist? FP is just a symptom of the same overall "I'm entitled to immediate gratification" mindset. And people wonder why kids all have "ADHD."
