guests who act like they know more about disneyland than the cm

Post by americawestguy » Sun Apr 22, 2007 2:49 pm

one of my pet peeves is that guests sometimes act like they know all of disneyland's secrets.
example-"there is an underground city underneath disneyland" me-know that is Walt Disney World. Disneyland doesn't have an extensive tunnel system like Wdw. guest" know disneyland does, i saw it on the travel channel.
-guest "they have an apartment in Sleeping Beauty Castle, i saw it on the travel channel" me- once again that is WDW. Cinderella's castle does have an appartment, the special appartment for disneyland is at disneyland hotel.
guest continues to argue about how they are right.
oh, it just makes me so mad. i worked at disneyland, i could walk it blindfold. i think i have a bit more knowledge of the working aspects of the park than a guest who saw something on the travel channel!!!

I totally understand what you mean...and I don't even WORK there! I went to Disneyland a ton when I was a kid and then to WDW a ton when I moved to the East Coast, (This is totaly OT but now that I'm back on the west coast I'll be making a trip down in the summer! Now where was I....) but I have to have argument over argument with people over the dumbest stuff! For example: SG: Oh you're going to Disney World? Ride Indiana Jones for me!
Me: OH no no no no no, that is actually at Disneyland, do you mean the Indiana Jones stunt show?
SG: NO! The ride! It's like the temple of doom, I had a buddy go on who loved it.
Me: Maybe he went to Disneyland. There isn't a ride for that at WDW.
SG: He's never been to Disneyland. Plus I saw it on the travel channel. (Okay so the bit about the travel channel wasn't in there, but I thought I would put it in for you benefit.) Why wouldn't I know what I was talking about when I lived 3 hours away and had been there 2 months before?? I can't even begin to imagine the frusteration of someone who works there. I would be pulling my hair out by its roots every day!

i've been to disneyland once (1986) and WDW 9 times, going on 10 this year. as i was talking about my upcoming trip, a co-worker said, yeah, did you hear someone was killed on the Big Thunder Mountain R/R? i said no, i didn't. she said that she almost fell out about 11 years ago., me: how? there is a safety bar that goes down and it locks in touching your legs? her: no, there were no restraints on this ride when i went. me: yes, at that time there were and as far as i know there would've always been restraints. her: not then., blah blah blah. no arguing, she almost fell out the side of the car but her dad saved her and they went to the mgmt and were comp'd. oh well

I feel sorry for the hard working CM's that have to be around those dumb people

Some one should call Secuirty to arrest the dumb people because they got out of their padded rooms

The only dumb thing i have herd (that i remember) from my last trip to WDW (dec 06) was these kids on the bus to Animal Kingdom saying all these facts

"Did you hear that on Expidition Everest, a screw fell out of the yedi's nose and his nose fell off and killed 2 people"
"Did you know, Space Mountain was the first rollercoaster EVER!!! and is over 350 feet tall"
"Did you hear that a Monorail fell off the tracks, The driver hit the forwards button when the track was switching, to go to the underground monorail station"
"Did you know the Rock "N" Rollercoaster goes 0-80 in 1.7 secconds"

then they said "Dont listen to that guy over there talking to that girl, he dosent know his Disney Facts" (he was talking about me, i was talking to my sister)

Did you hear that a turntable jammed on the fifth floor of the Capitol Records building and the building rotated for half an hour until the power was cut off?

We have that at other themeparks too. As a ride op, its actually quite fun to have to literally show them that they are wrong by making them watch the equipment or us operating the equipment to prove them wrong. My favorite targets are those damn teen-aged know it alls. Its fun to humiliate them.

I can still picture this little kid running past me while I was setting up parade GC ropes from MS leading into Tomorrowland as he's shouting, "let's go on the Tea Cups, they're right next to the merry-go-round - I saw it on t.v.!!!"

I learn something new each time I visit. I know more than the average SG, but certainly would not go up against a CM.

Well, it depends on the CM.

And if they have been drinking.
