Future CM--just two more weeks!

Post by Conservative Hippie » Wed Mar 28, 2007 10:21 am

I figured there had to be a board for Disney employees somewhere! My DH has been hired as a computer programmer and we will be moving to Orlando in two weeks! I have no idea where we are going to live...any advice would be appreciated!

I just read the "Disney Look" booklet last night and I had no idea they were so strict! I swear I have never had to measure my fingernails...Anyway, it will be a big change from Whole Foods Market, where is working now. We are so excited!

I live in Deltona but that's a long haul from WDW.

Most CM's opt for the western side of Orlando. A lot like the Clermont area, also Davenport, Ocoee, Celebration, etc. For commuting purposes I would stick to somewhere near one of the arteries (SR417, SR429, SR528, I4)

Where you ultimately choose will depend on what you can afford.

I'm an IT person and would love to get into Disney IT but because I'm a hardware person, I don't see that happening.

The Disney Look is not really as bad as the book points out, more common sense than anything else.

I'd love to work for Disney, I focus on network security mainly, and I saw an article recently on a woman who works for Disney keeping employee/guest data secure was honored. One of the other parents at the daycare we take our kid to used to be a webmaster for disney.com. She said he misses it daily.

Congrats! Good luck on the pending move!

I just made that move from Portland, OR about 3 weeks ago, and I don't think I'll be looking back for a very long time. I came here, interviewed, flew back, drove to Orlando and was still here a week before the Oregon DMV sent my driving record (grumble, grumble). I look forward to hearing about your move.

Well I'm extremely conservative in both politics and religion (you can call me a "crazy fundamentalist"--I don't mind), and I'm also a bit of a granola-eating yoga-practicing hippie. So one of my friends dubbed me the Conservative Hippie.

BTW, we have a moving day! The movers are coming 4/11 and we will be flying into Orlando on 4/13! We're planning to spend our first evening in MK (yes I know how much you loathe AP holders, but we do have them). Then his first day of work is 4/16. I found us a temporary place to stay until we find a house--it is at the Tropical Palms Resort in Kissimmee, ever heard of it?

Anyway, we are very excited (and I'm a little stressed) and eager to get there!

Makes me so glad I moved away from Portland, OR. I get along with people here in Orlando much better.

Oh, and why do the Hippies get the cool Birkenstocks? They're comfortable, and I'm not going to stop wearing them. But I agree with all of the above two posts.
