Sailing Ship Columbia!
I totally forgot about this but I was looking through my DL pics from last year and I remembered!
So, we're on the Columbia, I had to drag my wife on there. We had priority seating at Blue Bayou and she just didn't want to go on it. Well, I've always liked the Columbia, so off we go. We're having a fine voyage, and the CM is having some fun with 'Hawkeye', which is a female CM. She seems amused, yet annoyed at the same time. So we laugh at their fun, and the ole Captain is getting a bit cocky. Well, we're heading into the station and the Mark Twain is still docked and holding things up. 20 minutes we're sitting there. My wife at this point is giving me crap, our 1 year old is ready to jump over and swim in and they try to amuse us by shooting the gun again (uh, woo?) and having some fun talking a bit of smack about the situation. Then the best thing happens, the Mark Twain finally leaves port and we head in, and the Captain overshoots the dock...

That's what I thought until I stood there watching the dock go by, the CM hang his head and back the thing up...DLRFantasmic!Dan wrote:Hahaha, there is no way that someone can overshoot the dock, :D:
How fast does the boat go? Like 2 mph?

As a guest I may not have a full understanding how the Columbia operates. From what I heard it is possible to drive that boat around and around in circles without stopping. Just something I heard and I am usually wrong.DLRFantasmic!Dan wrote:Hahaha, there is no way that someone can overshoot the dock, :D:

Nope, you've got it right. Dead right, in fact.mechurchlady wrote:As a guest I may not have a full understanding how the Columbia operates. From what I heard it is possible to drive that boat around and around in circles without stopping. Just something I heard and I am usually wrong.

This was what happened when a manager put the line on the Columbia one day when it was moving too fast to stop, resulting in a cleat being ripped off the boat and inserted thru the skull of a guest. (True, he was a Micro$oft engineer, but it was still wrong.)
Peter Pan will stop automatically. Snow White will stop automatically. And Small World will stop randomly depending on just how desperate the average guest is to get the hell out of there. But rides like the big boats, steam trains, and monorails all stop subject to the will (and skill) of their operators.

It's a CM vs. Newton's 1st Law kinda deal. Who will win?Zazu wrote:But rides like the big boats, steam trains, and monorails all stop subject to the will (and skill) of their operators.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: Sailing Ship Columbia!
On your last day as CM that would be fun to take the train, jungle boats, Mark Twain or Columbia out for a nonstop party. I have always wanted to take a paintball gun to Rivers of America. I would ride the train and see the same things that probably have not been cleaned for 40 years. Paintball to the back of the horse then take out the teepees and the settlers cabin.
Now you know why I do not go back to the parks, fear of temptation.
Zazu you made my day, woot, I got an answer right. :D:
