I want a dream job too!!
America: You Decide Who Gets The Dream 'Job'
Disneyland Resort
More nerve-wracking than a trip to the board room, how about having to interview with 300 million Americans to see if you'll land your dream job! On center stage are the 100 most creative finalists from the CareerBuilder.com-Disney Dream "Job" online video search who are competing for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to live out a Disney Dream "Job" for a day.
Beginning March 6 and running through March 30, America can check out the video auditions online at http://www.careerbuilder.com/disneydreamjobs and click to view and vote for their favorite Jungle Cruise Skipper, Haunted Mansion Butler or Maid, Pirate, Princess-in-Waiting or Disney Park Parade Performer.
The five applicants in each category who receive the most support will get the chance to live out their honorary dream job for a day. The winners will travel to the Disneyland(R) Resort in Anaheim, Calif., in June 2007 during the grand opening of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
"We have been overwhelmed by the response. We have received submissions from every U.S. state and thousands of people visit the contest site daily," said Michael Mendenhall, executive vice president, global marketing, Disney Destinations. "The creativity of the auditions has been astounding and we have seen everything from would-be Jungle Cruise Skippers navigating the treacherous waters of their swimming pools to Disney Pirates plundering and pillaging their own living rooms! This really has captured the imagination of the public and will be one tough choice for America."
Dream "Job" wanna-bes were asked to send in a video that showcased their most original and creative attributes, including why they want to work at a Disney Park, qualifications and skills for their desired position and reasons why this is their Disney Parks Dream "Job."

They get lots of free publicity.
They get free "employees for the day".
They do not have to pay taxes or health benefits for their "employees for the day".
They can write off the cost as a business expense thus saving them taxes.
Zazu the difference is that the "employees for the day" are guests and thus will not get yelled at, fear firing and reprimands, can loaf and not do their job well, get away with messing up, and will be treated like royalty.

Hey, they're gonna try to do a good job... it's just that with only one day to do it, I doubt they ever could...I know I couldn't without the proper training...

Re: I want a dream job too!!
Do what I did one time (years ago)...
I sent a resume into my company for a position that I applied for, but couldn't get, because my supervisor would not let me go.
Needless to say, I was called into my supervisor's office and was asked to explain why I applied in such a manner (apparently he was questioned by HR). I said, "Well, I applied for the positin and apparently you won't let me leave your department. I might just go over to HR and ask why I haven't been considered for the position."
The next day I was talking to my new supervisor.

Re: I want a dream job too!!
Predictions (at least for mansion, others will vary):
Honorary butlers/maids will rotate through the following 5 positions:
Greeter
Stretch Room Assist (stand around and look like your doing something)
Portrait Hall Greeter (same as above)
Maybe walk a belt
Exit turnstyles
And at some point, they will get a walkthrough of the attraction.
For Jungle Cruise winners, I cant figure out if they will just stand up and make jokes (Read from a script) while a real skipper pilots, but I can't imagine taking someone and training them on an attraction in a day... If they did, it could be seen as an insult to current CMs (Especially JC, which ive been told takes a while to master)...telling the CMs that "hey, we can pluck any person off the internet and replace you with a day of training." Not a great message to send a cast with an already outrageous turnover rate... :(
Of course, this can work promotionally and there could be 1000's lined up outside casting. ;)

Re: I want a dream job too!!
Very interesting, insightful reply bpg. I ALWAYS enjoy your posts! I'm not in Attractions but think walking a belt would be difficult for some - especially with no training & if there might be a balance issue. Exit turnstyles? Ya, real difficult work. ;) A walk through would have to be a part of the day. No matter this is a one day CM dream job, I totally agree this entire idea sends very negative messages to CMs who feel Disney devaluates all their long hours & fine efforts. We'll have to deal with all with a smile. :) Whatelse is new? :(bpgstudios wrote:Predictions (at least for mansion, others will vary):

Re: I want a dream job too!!
You have to imagine that these cast members for a day will be very carefully supervised. There's going to be a lead, a manager or even someone higher ranking watching them all day to make sure they don't screw up for liability reasons (in case the CM for a day or some guest they encounter decides to sue). This is a PR stunt and the brass will want to make sure it doesn't turn into a PR nightmare.
It honestly sounds like a fun promotion. I didn't apply, but I have thought at times that it would be fun to perform in a parade or do stand-up on the Jungle Cruise. On the otherhand, I wouldn't want to quit my job and take a 80% pay cut to do it. ;) I don't think this implies any disrespect to the CMs or should be percieved in a threatening manner. Its simply appealing to those who admire the work of the cast members in these various positions during their vacations to DL or WDW and would like to try it themselves in the same way that someone might like to be mayor for a day without becoming a professional politian.
For those CMs on this board who have been working for the mouse for a long time (i.e. not a summer job, a CP position, etc.) I assume there has to be something that you really enjoy about your jobs that keeps you there despite the low pay, crappy break rooms, and SGTs. And I think that perhaps the fact that so many people entered this contest is a recognition of that something special about your jobs.

Re: I want a dream job too!!
One possibility I might want to offer: It may be that the wannabes find that work as a CM is terribly difficult, and offer public statements that the experience has increased their respect for CMs and all we do and put up with. It wouldn't have to be all of them -- seeing as it qualifies as "bad news" even one such report will get more coverage than all the others who think it's "trained monkey" routines.
Hey! I could happen!
