I was at theater once where guests did control the start time, because a glut of them always came at the last minute and delayed our start. Our fault for letting them get away with it.
I'll never forget the guy that thought the theater was too cold. It was a tad chilly, but there was little we could do, and it didn't mean he had to stand in the back during the entirety of the show.

Delaying the start of anything is negative reinforcement. I had one moron show up late for a class and demand I start over. I told him no and he started a rant. I told the class to take a break and called his boss. He was on the next plane home. Sayonara sucker!!

When I worked at PGA, Shows Department management decreed that all of the shows would start 5 minutes after the time posted. Because guests always run into the theaters late. Then they started posting the times as 11:05 instead of 11:00 and the guests would show up late for that too. Also, I worked on an ice show, guests would walk in out of the 90 degree heat and comment on how nice & cool it was. Five minutes later, there would be at least one complaining and wanting us to turn up the heat. UMMMM, do you not see the that big piece of ice that forms the stage?
