I'd like to see a kid on heelies make it over one of the ramps, and then maybe head first into a pyro launcher. (actually, I'd kinda like to see the RC car make it over the ramp too, minus the pyro)

Yes, I can find you at Disney... but not for too much longer. (and yes, some of our conversations have made me laugh)

This is the single biggest problem that I see at DL - consistency of enforcing rules/guidelines. Part of it has to do with CM's who actually give a damn about their jobs and do exactly as they are told by trainers and management. The other part is having management who won't cave under pressure to guests who yell and scream in order to get their way. You know damn well that there are CM's who don't do their jobs in the screening area and let contraban, including Heelies, get through to the gates. So on a subsequent visit a guest who is then confronted with the rules protests that, "we have been here X times before and no one said anything," forcing the CM to have to explain everything in full (including reasons) to a guest who now has an attitude.

Of course there is also the "but there is no sign" excuse when it comes to a lot of things. No signs saying "no climbing on the California letters", "no going over the fences into the planters", "no skateboards, bicycles, roller skates, Heelies", "no bringing outside food in", "no smoking" etc, etc, etc. If there were signage for all the rules (which we all know, the real SG's wouldn't bother reading), the parks and accompanying areas would be covered in signs, hence the need for CM's to do their jobs and remain consistent. And honestly, are any of the guests paying attention and taking to heart the new safety signs that got put up in the screening tents that feature Pumba and Timon? Does anyone out in the various lands hear anyone saying "it's a rope not a ride?"

But then again, this is why a Darwin award is necessary - let's hope that natural selection kills off enough of those SG's (both Jr. and Adult) that people who visit in future generations have more sense than to climb over a fence in the wrong area or skate into a grate.

Problem is, will future generations be able to afford a visit, considering how much the admission prices will have to be boosted to make up for all the settlements/payouts to the families of the dead SGs?

Birdmom,

Exactly. Until the pay is worth a crap, finding someone to put up with that much hell from guests is going to be difficult. Even if you find someone who really cares, my bet is they'll be come jaded after a few years and give up. Especially w/o support from management. Thankfully my company pays pretty good, and I always back up my techs when customers escalate to me and complain.

I'd jump on my soapbox and talk about how part of the problem is due to society is these days (all about me, and it's never *MY* fault!), but that's a whole other can of worms :)

see, the thing with me is yes...if I am in a position where I can spend atleast 2 minutes with the guest and not back up our queue, I'll tell the guest no roller skating. Many of the locations I work though I do not have time to visually verify that they take the wheels out. Nor do I want the confrontation in all honesty. Ill tell the guest no roller skating, especially in our queues. None of them listen though. I kinda gave up on it since noone else enforces it.

On a side note, I got fed up with one of my cousins when we went on a (non disney) cruise over christmas. He had his heelies on and was roller skating throuout the entire ship. So when he was at the pool, I removed the wheels from his shoes and hid them in the dresser drawer. it was great

Zazu...where's the heelies kid doing a faceplant into the asphault smilie?

tell you what..... these things annoy me more than anything else... yet parents are buying them for their kids like crazy!!

I stood outside of shoe store at the mall on Monday while my daughters and wife spent an hour in Claire's (earings and girl stuff). Family after family came into this shoe store, tried on Heelys and bought them. That bench didn't have more than 1 minute rest before the next family was sitting their having their 8 year old try some on... made me sick!

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

My youngest actually asked for a pair last week. I think I must have looked at her like she was from Mars. :aliens:

She kept saying, "Mom?" "Mom?"

We can't throw em overboard because they'd just roll across the top of the dolphin's and whales backs because that's how evil those things are!
