I never was a CM but my mom told me what you heard that they want to change the island to a Pirates themed island.

I've heard precisely diddly-squat so far from Management -- but I'll be happy to ask around tomorrow... Shake the tree and see what falls, so to speak.americawestguy wrote:any cms heard any news on TSI's fate? what are your feelings on this?

Re: tom sawyer island?
yeah, I heard about the change to a pirates theme and I'm kind of torn. On one hand, how many kids nowadays even know who Tom Sawyer is. I know they're out there, but if you took a poll I'm sure it'd be a much smaller proportion than it was in years past. Most, if not all, kids nowadays know what a pirate is and have probably seen the movie (that is if it's based on the movie I wasn't sure if it was going to be based on general pirates or the movies specifically)
But, I hated it when they changed the Treehouse to Tarzan for essentially the same reason I don't like this. That reason is that it was a classic and I don't really like the idea of replacing any ride just because it's old/outdated/kids don't like it....although I understand why they have to do it when that's the case.
Now, I have also heard that this changeover of the island is going to include food and merchandise locations...that will drastically reduce the amount of space for kids to just run around in like it is now and that I'm really against, if they were going to keep it with tunnels, rocks, etc to run around in, climb on, etc then I'd be okay with the change, but if they really are just using it as yet another merchandise location then I'm against it.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens with it....it could be really cool, but it probably won't be.

Oh yes, Al. The guy who seems to hate Disney so much, yet spends so much of his time obsessing over it. Talk about a great source of info... :twisted:darph nader wrote:But,Al said...............![]()
he's the only one I've seen say anything, and to say he's a credible source would be a big stretch.
What do you mean you won't smile for the camera?

I'll ask too, however we must remember in the Tom Sawyer book, there is a time when Tom and Huck played at being Pirates, and then went to their own funerals...

Tom and Huck may have played at being pirates, but I don't believe their mothers purchased them corporate synergy designed pirate costumes, nor did they have their handy-dandy Mattel pirate playsets or Davy Jones lobster claw gloves.Purpura wrote:I'll ask too, however we must remember in the Tom Sawyer book, there is a time when Tom and Huck played at being Pirates, and then went to their own funerals...
I hated to see the Tahitian Terrace go, and contrary to the company line at the time, the guests loved the place - there were always lines for both the food and the show. Seeing the treehouse re-themed was sad, but the Island would be bordering on sacrilege. I don't understand why every damn attraction has to be tied into a more recent movie - yeah, yeah, corporate marketing gods from hell, but still. The Haunted Mansion wasn't based on any particular movie, nor was Small World or Mr. Lincoln, or my dear little Bear Band critters...you didn't see WDI coming up with a "Goofy's Motormania" or dark ride for "Donald's Mathamagic-land" in the old days. I'd like to place an eternal curse on marketers for making every square foot of the park have to tie into something profitable.

Actually, I think I recall reading someting about the autopia, at one point, being tied somehow to a Goofy mr. walker/mr. wheeler theme...does anyone know anything about that? Was that just an idea they bounced around that I heard about or did I maybe just dream that?BirdMom wrote:...you didn't see WDI coming up with a "Goofy's Motormania" or dark ride for "Donald's Mathamagic-land" in the old days.
But a Donald's Mathamagic-land dark ride...that would be awesome! I would be a huge supporter of that ride! They could get one of the old ride-songwriting teams to do a theme that would be both educational and catchy! Kids would come out knowing their multiplication tables! It would be like a Disney-fied "No Child Left Behind act!" :D:
