Hometown fun
Consider this inspired by the new nametag thread. I thought it might be fun to find out about SGTers beyond the town listed (or not) on the nametag. These are the categories:
(1) Place of birth;
(2) Where you've lived the longest in your life;
(3) What you consider to be your hometown and why (in other words, the place you've lived you most strongly identify yourself with -- where your heart is);
(4) Most unusual place you've lived, if any; and
(5) Where you'd live if you could live anywhere.
Here's mine:
(1) Place of birth: Groves, Texas (way down in the southeast corner, close to the Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana).
(2) Where I've lived the longest: Southeast Texas, for a total of 17 out of my 42 years (my first 7 years, and then 10 more after college).
(3) My hometown and why: Golden, Colorado. I grew up there, from age 7 through high school.
(4) Most unusual place I've lived: Probably Golden, mainly because everyone who finds out I was from there asks about Coors. (No, I don't drink it -- although to this day the smell of fermenting hops says "home" to me!) (Likewise the smell of the oil refiniries in SE Texas).
(5) Where I'd live if I could live anywhere: I started to put Orlando, just so I could be close to the mouse, but if I had my way, I'd live in Colorado again and be independently wealthy so I could visit WDW whenever. (If anyone has piles of money lying around that isn't being used, please send some my way!)

(3) What you consider to be your hometown and why (in other words, the place you've lived you most strongly identify yourself with -- where your heart is): Westminster, CA... been here most of my life, and it's not too far from the Mouse
(4) Most unusual place you've lived, if any: FPO, AE 09543-2810
(5) Where you'd live if you could live anywhere: Umm... Irvine, CA. Nice clean neighborhoods, and still easy to commute to the Mouse. ;) Need the aforementioned boatloads of cash though. :(

(1) Place of birth Los Angeles, CA
(2) Where you've lived the longest in your life Huntington Beach
(3) What you consider to be your hometown Huntington Beach. We moved there when I was 3, I went all through school there, and got married from HB. I lived, ate and breathed the beach for years. It's still in my system - when I die, I want to be cremated and scattered off the coast.
(4) Most unusual place you've lived Morgan Hill, CA. At the time, it was all farms in the valley, population maybe 1,000. My roommate and I lived in a house her folks built up in the hills across the road where there was a lot of recreational boating, etc. The power was unpredictable, in the winter it would get below freezing. Sometimes you'd have to wait for the sun to come up and melt the ice off of the steeply sloped driveway before you could get out of the house in January/February. However, it was worth it living with no streetlights, across the road from a lake, having deer come down into the backyard and having none of the San Jose smog.
(5) Where you'd live if you could live anywhere. Europe. It would be harder for me to narrow it down between London and Rome. Art, architecture, culture. My idea of heaven. And, oh yes - very important - cultured, educated MEN!

(1) Place of birth: Los Angeles, CA
(2) Where you've lived the longest in your life: Torrance, CA (about 20 miles due east of Disneyland), but that was my parents' choice, not mine.
(3) What you consider to be your hometown and why (in other words, the place you've lived you most strongly identify yourself with -- where your heart is):
Long answer: This one is really hard. After Torrance, I've spent about equal time in Manhattan Beach, CA, Chattanooga, TN, and Lake Buena Vista FL. In it's time, I considered each to be home. Recent visits to CA and TN have shown they've grown into something else.
Short answer: My nametag says "Chattanooga, TN" ... or it would if they could find it. Neither my current or previous department got one for me this round.
(4) Most unusual place you've lived: Probably Chattanooga. It's an interesting place, and my office overlooked three different railroads, including two that ran steam locomotives.
(5) Where you'd live if you could live anywhere: Lake Buena Vista, off Reams Road just north of the Magic Kingdom. My current 8 miles from Spaceship Earth just isn't close enough.
Haven't picked the lot yet, but I do have rough drawings of the house I want to build. Just waiting to win the lottery. I hear that I have the same chances of winning (to six decimal places) whether I buy a ticket or not, so I'm saving that money for decorating.
