The thing that people don't seem to get is that there will ALWAYS be smokers, regardless of you trying to shove them into a leper colony. Mark my words, at some point, you keep denying us a place to relax and enjoy our nicotine, smokers will revolt and make YOU stand in the freezing cold wondering what the fuck just happened. This is for the smokers who follow the rules properly, not the numbskulls who happily blow smoke right into anyone's face with a sneer. THOSE bastards aren't even allowed in this section. But for some reason, we are all lumped together. Look, I move away from others, especially babies and elderly, but damn it you had better accommodate me seeing as I do for every stupid thing that you say or try to do to me. I am still here and guess what I am NOT going to dissolve just because you feel it's your duty to chew me out. Take a long look at yourself before you condemn me. I bet horns are holding up your halo too.

:takes her soapbox to a quiet corner and has a smoke:

Off topic, but it's great to see so many filmmakers here. I'm a film major right now, and it's been part of my life since I was born.

But yes... Transferring to Operations has shown me exactly how retarded people can be. Haven't seen any smoking at the water parks yet, but I"m just waiting.

I've tried the gum, but it was a bitch to roll and hell to keep lit. :D:

VISA. It's everywhere you want to be, and a lot of places you don't.

Nope. There are still smoking rooms in WDW, although the numbers are less than they were ten years ago.

While I agree that the OP was justified with their actions, there are a lot of smokers that are very annoying at the parks. Is it really too much to ask to contain your smoking in a few dozen isolated areas? I mean, come on, there are more smoking sections than bathrooms at all of the WDW parks. And calling them "leper colonies?" Most of them are nice, quiet, out of the way places with shade and/or a good view. If smokers should be able to smoke anywhere, why shouldn't I be able to urinate or defecate anywhere I want to? It's more natural than smoking and at least it (usually) won't kill me.

A question to CM's...would you say there are more inconsiderate smokers in ratio to those of us that do abide by the rules? Just a curiosity question really.
Thinking back to my last few visits, I seem to recall more smoking areas in the hot sun with little or no shade available, but that may just be because those areas stick in my memory. Especially the one in TL by the Indy Speedway. As long as there is a shady area within sight for my kiddos to chill out away from the smoke while mom & I do our thing...that's fine with me.

Im suprised Knotts hasnt changed their policy yet. We are still a smoking park -- save for Camp Snoopy. A common question is "are we allowed to smoke here?" in which I reply "Yep, you can smoke inside the park except for Camp Snoopy." Usually the guest has to ask if Im screwing with them or not, but its true, you can smoke inside Knotts still.

As for backstage? Well, lets just say EVERYONE smokes back there. :o:

I'm not a CM (yet) but I live literally next door to WDW and spend an inordinate amount of time there. I'm also one of those people who can catch a whiff of smoke from a mile away, so I tend to notice when people are not smoking in the designated areas. I'd have to say that it used to be bad, but over the past year or so, it's pretty rare that I see someone not following the rules. In a four-hour park visit, I'll see maybe one or two smokers who are puffing away in non-designated areas (usually they're walking around while smoking, which galls me because I was was once burned by a careless smoker walking past me at Cedar Pont). To me, that seems like a pretty low percentage overall.

However, last time I visited AK (last week), there were TONS of people smoking in non-designated areas. Not sure what was up with that! And I've noticed that at Epcot smokers will light up in non-designated areas while waiting for Illuminations (they don't want to leave their prime spot but apparently can't make it through showtime without a "hit"). If they are near me, I remind them politely but firmly of the rules. I've had a few pull the "I don't speak English" card, but I can say "No smoking here" in a variety of languages. ;)

But still, I think that the law-abiding smokers far outnumber the rude ones, or at least in my frequent experience.

Actually, at Knott's it's no smoking in Camp Snoopy, bathrooms, restaurants, inside stores or in queues and on rides. When I worked there, it was amazing how many people couldn't see those red signs saying no smoking in Camp Snoopy, children are at play. I had a few people give me the rude tone when asking where they could smoke. We even had a couple of those "smoker's outposts" things at the entrance to Camp Snoopy from the main entrance, but people would knock them over alot.
I'm the only one in my family who never smoked; my mom and one of my sisters had to stop for health reasons. My mom, in fact, has COPD, as well as an abdominal aortic aneurysm; because of her COPD, caused by 55 years of smoking, she can't have the surgery to repair it. It's three inches too high for her to have a stent. It's getting close to the point where it is likely to burst. If that happens, I'm screwed. Long story, I'm sure I've told it before, but basically my parents got bad advice on me, and Mom especially took the crap about my (supposedly) not being able to live by myself, drive or hold down a real job to heart, and as a result I have problems getting decent work. As a result, I have hardly any money (had to cash out my 401k from Knott's--boy, did they take a bite out of it!), I have an eviction on my record, and I'm paying off student loans. I'll be on the street.
Mom tried several times to quit, and it wasn't until she was diagnosed 3 years ago that she quit. My sister with the health problems smoked and took birth control pills, and she ended up with a stroke. She's okay, but once in a great while she'll have an attack of some sort. My brother seems to be cutting back, but he'd better because of his heart problems. But that's what he gets for being such a picky eater--two fried eggs for breakfast every day; yep, that'll do it.
I'm not judging anyone, but really, has anyone calculated how much you're spending on something you got along without very well for a portion of your lives? If my mom had never smoked, or quit much sooner, she wouldn't be taking half the meds she's taking now, not to mention she'd have more money for living expenses. Of course, if she'd let me learn computers much earlier, allowed me to get a job that actually paid something and allowed me to live on my own, she wouldn't have to pay obscene amounts of money for a crumbling apartment run by a bunch of crooks like we are now. And I wouldn't have to worry about my future. Oh, well, as they say, hindsight is always 20/20....
