Un-Orthodox Directions

Post by CujoSR » Sun Sep 28, 2003 8:20 pm

I was cashiering over at the Train (DCA Resturant) one night. A large family Hebrews came inside pushed all three tiny tables together and proceeded to whip out an entire meal, well buffet really. We're talking a meal fit for 12 here and the was only about 7 of them. One of the kids comes to me and asks, in broken english, for some cups. So I gave them enough for all of them. Then he comes back and asks for some plates. Ok, fine. A few mins. later MORE CUPS!!! So as any good CM would I gave them more cups. :x Now to remind you these guys came into my tiny little resturant, took up all three tables when there were plenty outside that seat more, blocked the walkway from anybody passing by between resturants, and asked for all those items I guess they forgot to bring, I was rather peeved by this time. Here comes the funny part, so now this little girl for the same group comes to me and asks which way east was. I could have been mean and pointed in the wrong direction but i'm not that messed up. I pointed where east was and she went back to sit down, Pulled the chair out to the middle of the walkway (already blocked enough) and begins to pray... POINTING NORTH!!! Ummm... didn't she ask for east? As I understand it isn't Israel east? Hell I didn't even know Jews had to sit a certain direction to pray. I was confused really.

I later asked some of the ticket takers about all the food they brought in and I talked to the one who let them in. Apparently she would not let them into the park with a full buffet so after fighting with the father long enough a manager finnaly said ok and let them in. Arrgh, why can't managers ever back a CM's call when it is the correct one based on policys that are drilled into us from the beginning? It just makes us look like fools.

"You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

Maybe Tour Bunny or someone else that works in Main Entracne Guest Services may wish to comment on this one...

This was a huge policy change about 4 months ago due to one incident.

Anyone care to take a stab at it?

My buddy left his job at Universal and fled in exile as a neanderthal to live in the Cayman Islands....He's cut himself off from all technology. He sends his stories in Aramaic on crayon written 3x5 cards sent by pigeon.

Perhaps they're from a rare branch of Judaism with Canadian origins.

And I do agree... nothing is worse than when you, your lead, and your general lead argue with a guest for 15 minutes just to have a manager walk up and let them get away with it. Then the guest always walks away with that stupid "I just got the best of you" smirk. Argh! :x

Although I do have to say that one of our managers (now gone to a better job :( ) was always really good about backing up CMs and leads when it came to dealing with outrageous guest demands. I really missed her when she left :(

i wonder which incidence you mean grk? i'm thinking it's the one where security ended up digging around in the garbage can for the food that the guest threw away at main entrance after beeing told they can't bring it in. well after a big fight and a lot of tears , security dug it out of that trash and dumped it off at the city hall office, stinking it up for at least a week. i don't know the exact details but, oh it was awfull!
the policy of course is not to bring food inside the park that has not been "assembled" like free floating sandwich meat mayo plus a loaf of bread. it is however okay to bring premade sandwiches in. why? god only knows. either way we usually ask them to store it at the picknick area lockers. but if they protest, what the hell, c'mon in!
but as soon as they say, it's for dietary or religious reasons then we have to let the entire grocery store in. the fear of legal actions leaves so many loop holes for guests. we signed of on bag checking rules some time ago, but it is realy on a case by case basis and main entrance cm's are getting more and more laxed about everything. so everytime i got pulled out there to bag check i felt downright like a nazi enforcing everything i had learned!
it irrotates the heck out of all of us to see people with all that crud in the park, thinking why on earth were they let in with that!

i know you are an idiot but can you try not to be so stupid?

I think you got it right... The Kosher food in the trash can, after ME threw it away... The deal with this family and not being able to eat in the park...
