As a Guest I gotta know; How do you guys handle it?!

I don't know how the characters handle it. Today, I saw two young kids pulling on Goofy wanting to take his picture while Goofy was heading backstage, He tried all his might to get the kids off of him. I feel bad for them and what they have to deal with.

Don't trust the chipmunks!! Once had an encounter with them backstage where they 1) wanted to ride the lift gate on the Disney truck I was driving 2) Attempted to drive said truck and 3) pushed the mirrors back on the truck. They then proceeded to look at the cases of soda as if they wanted to take some of them..............

but in all honesty, it is, and always will be my dream job, working at disneyland. so no matter how much i have gone through, how much i want to strangle some guests, no matter how much i hate telling people where the bathrooms are even through they are clearly marked on the maps, i will always give a smile and wish them a nice day.

im sure we've all seen it but after a double shift of backbreaking labor, i thought it was funny and had to try it out.

I also have to jump in in support of the "lunatic adults." I would say that the adults that take the time to wait in line are oftentimes more grateful than the kids. Simply because the adults that choose to stand in line and wait through all of the parents with screaming kids cutting right in front of you simply because they think they have the right because of their child, and getting the goofy looks from others who think that they are lunatics-are actually the people who are a fan of that character. They are the ones that are old enough to know that there is a person inside of that costume but are more than willing to suspend their disbelief just to get that one, perfect shot with their favorite Disney Characters.

On the other hand, a good number of the kids that I see at character meets are looking off to other areas of the park, trying to get away from their parents to get to the fun stuff, screaming in terror of the giant costumes because they don't understand, and oftentimes being dragged up their just to take a picture because their parents want it and not the kids themselves. Or, they are simply going around collecting their autographs and don't even care about the character beyond that. I've watched kids just walk up with the book and a pen, get the autograph and just turn and walk away, no thanks, no appreciation, no picture, just the signature and gone.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have also still seen the kids with the awe in their eyes as they walk up to the living embodiment of Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh. I know that they do exist, they just seem to be in the minority.

And personally, as a kid, I know that my parents took pics of me with characters and I got some autographs-none of which I remember or think I cared about at the time (though, I do remember Goofy being cool :) ) But the 45 minutes that I spent standing in line with my future husband while we waited to meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore on our first DL trip together and seeing his eyes light up and having a pic of him hugging the very life out of that poor Pooh Bear is a memory that I'll never forget. And the image of him literally leaping over a hedge and screaming out "MICKEY" at the top of his lungs at finally getting to see Mickey after two previous trips without him is one that I still love describing to our friends and watching him just grin like a madman. And of course, our pic of the two of us with both Mickey and Minnie, in their 50th finery, that they both took a special moment to come over and take with us in front of the theater on the first day of our Honeymoon is a cherished picture and memory that means the world to us.

So, I would say to never discredit those "lunatic adults" because that moment probably means more to them than to any of the kids in that line with them ;)
