Things Thrown...

Post by yippyskippy » Tue Aug 01, 2006 5:04 am

A list of things thrown at Animation Academy DisneyQuest and bit of venting on my part.

First off, the DisneyQuest building is built to be rather open spaced in the center. Those on the fifth and fourth floor can lean over the railing to see the second floor below while munching on dinner. Third floor center just has to look over a bench through the railing to see second floor. And it is that second floor where I am located at Animation Academy, bull's eye station of 18 desks and a brightly colored instructor (me and read moving target). Not that things are thrown down all the time, but usually it is me. In the four years I have worked as the AA instructor, it has been during my classes like some twisted humor of Fate and bored teenager's sick minds (not like they don't have enough to do in a five story interactive themepark/arcade). I think today was my breaking point where I just have to list all the things that have come down on me and my classes over the years:

Spit (Yes, spit.)
Spitwads
Straws (wrapped and unwrapped)
Straw wrappers
Whipped Cream
Chocolate Pudding (still signs of that chocolate bomb on the ceiling somewhere)
Sugar Packet Wrappers
Sugar (Hawaiian Raw Sugar)
Whole Sugar Packets
Toothpicks
Ice
Extra Large Coke (I know because I cleaned it. That's a lot of soda.)
Cups of Various Sizes
Toddler Toy (Big toddler toy. I just about fell out of my chair when this hit the row divider.)
Jolly Rancher (Jolly Ranchers will shatter when dropped from two stories onto a hard surface)
Rubber Bouncy Balls (First and Last time I stood up with open arms to greet the class)
Coins (Mostly pennies... Note: Quarters do hurt)
Mars Mud (Think of slime, but not as slimey and easier to clean)
ABC Gum (Minty)
Slightly Harder ABC Gum (Like quarters, this does hurt when hit. It was fruity and prompeted me to list all this.)
Sunglasses (Various kinds over the years.)
Cell phone (It survived the fall from one floor above.)
Plastic Knives
Plastic Spoons
Plastic Forks
Bits of Above Mentioned Utensils
Plastic Fork loaded with Cheesecake and whipped cream (That landed right on my head. I smelled like cheesecake all day.)
Chocolate Cake Crumbs
Park Maps
Napkins
Baby Shoes (Always the right or left, but never both.)
MAGIC: The Gathering Cards (I can't forget those.)

I know some of these things are dropped by accident, but much of it was just plain maliciousness on part of the guest. Scarily enough, its sometimes those families who think it is 'cute' when their 3 year old tosses what-have-you down on the class. It is not cute. Good number of the things thrown come from teens who get bored around dinner time and see an open target down below. And some of it is just Murphy's law. I have developed a jaded sense of calm over the years when these things come from above. I have come to accept the guest stupidity as it is, call it into my manager whenever it happens, and hope when those that purposely throw things down will get a good kick of karma later on.
