I just spent the day height checking for Primeval Whirl. Now, my absolute least favorite place in all of Disney World is Dinoland. It is the loudest, trashiest, most un-Disney part of any park I have ever seen.

I think I read somewhere that Walt was againt the carnival-style games. Aren't there a few of those right there? Someone forgot that it is WALT Disney World and what Walt said should be what happens (or doesn't happen in this case).

Unfortunately, unless the man gets up and takes a walk to the corporate office to raise some hell, things are always going to be done by the power of the dollar. (Of course, what I wouldn't give to see Mr. Disney do just that!!)

Have also read Walt wanted no part of a carnival atmosphere. Was not a part of his family morals value type thinking. Always wonder what he'd say about South Pier & Boardwalk? There is money in those games I'm told. Am just glad I never had to work them.

Just so you know, Steve Birnbaum died in 1997. The "Official Guide" is the Company line, so you shouldn't look for perspective or history there (unless the Company thinks that will help them sell a visit).

What's mentioned in his biographies is that he didn't like the dirtiness and lack of safety in the carnivals. Seem to also remember the unsavoriness of the carnival workers. (perhaps that has something to do with the "Disney Look") He wasn't comfortable taking his daughter there on a Sunday afternoon because of it. So, he saught to build a safe alternative for parents to take their kids to and still feel good about.

Chester and Hester's does not even come close to what Walt hated about carnivals; dirty Carny shows that ripped off the guests. Take the game of chance booths at C &H's. We see a number of our younger guests carrying around really large stuffed animals that either they or their parents won for them. Never would have happened at the carny shows. The atmosphere is out of tourist sites on the old Route 66 which is an American Icon. :D:

I didn't know about his death, but I know the Birnbaum book is the Company line. I use the Unofficial Guide and I've bought a Passporter to check out. ;)
