I am sorry some guest just fails to remember the golden rule. Try to think of the guest who is ranting and raving as not personally attacking you but merely dumping their frustrations on the first person they come across. Unfortunately that just happened to be you. People act this way for several reason and none of them are your fault.

Frustration occurs when reality differs from expectations. Some people expected to get their way, all the time.

Some people have feelings of low self worth and have to exert what ever power they can whether it is real or imaginary just to validate their existence.

Some guest come from sub-cultures where yelling and exhibiting belittling behavior is a normal way of conducting themselves in public. For instance, sub-cultures that hail from the New England States. (I am just stating a fact. If you don't believe me, just ask few guests behaving in this fashion where they are from).

So the next time this happens just remember it is not you they are yellying at or treating badly. They would say and act the same way regardless of who was standing in front of them. I doubt he even saw your face at the time he was acting out.

Just smile at them and look them in the eye. Eye contact is important. Talk softly even if it feels like you are doing it through gritted teeth. Lowering your voice and talking slowly will calm a bad situation and, believe it or not, actually give you the power to control the situation. They are mad but when they see they are not getting the same response from you they will back down and actually feel bad about their behavior. They will not always show their feels but they will feel bad none the less. To react negatively to their attack would only worsen the situation and then you will feel bad because you gave them the power over your reaction.

So when this occurs again say, so were are you visiting from? Is that a New England/New York accent I am detecting? What is your favorite park? Have a magical day!" Then just remember they will go away.

I love it when I work Buzz or Stitich FP return and people arrive early. Depending on how early, I'll tell them to take a spin on Carousel of Progress or TTA and come back and you will be let in. On a side note: I love it when the FP line backs up. Everyone who got a FP is like: "That's the fastpass line??" I'm standing there thinking to myself: "See? It would have been easier to just wait in that 10 minute line in the first place..."

Really good advice....well, except for the completely erroneous information about New Englanders. Lousy guests are world-wide........

hey guys, thanks for all the great posts. whomever asked it it was a sarcastic tone, no it was not. im a very sensitive person, and you telling me how it was funny made feel just as bad as the guest did. im a sensitive person, and i feel bad if i ruin anyone's day, which is why i usually let the guests have their way, even if its against me. its hard for me to stand upp for myself, mainly because if i do, the guests have some sort of way to counteract it

Hey, all New Englanders out there, I am not saying that people that come from New England are bad. I am a New Englander as well. I also have lived all over the country and in Europe and I can not only spot a New Yorker/New Englander (especially from Mass) from 50 feet but can spot an American as well while overseas. We are unique and have a unique culture. Have you ever felt people drove to slowly or were uncomfortably kind? If so, perhaps someone's culture clashed with yours. When people from different areas, or sub-cultures, get together the behavior displayed can be ruled as right or wrong based on individual belief systems. Basically we find some behavior insulting and rude while others would consider it to be normal. I know rude behavior can come from all over the world. I am just saying that we need to be mindful of Ethnocentrism or the way we judge other people's culture through the values and norms of our own. We just have to take this into consideration before we think people are being mean or rude. Perhaps it is normal behavior where they come from just like what we do with out thinking could be seen as rude to others.
