Sounds like it might be a California labor law. Because if it was a Disney policy that was in a CMs favor, would Disney tell the CMs about it?Stduck wrote:If I understood the DCA Ops guy and DL Westside Ops correctly. They have to give you your lunch in that time range (between the 3rd and 5th hour for a 8 hour shift). And if they don't get you a lunch by the 5th hour (again using the 8 hour shift example) they have to pay you an extra hour of straight time and still try to get you a lunch. I don't know if this is Disney policy or part of the California labor laws.

It's consistent with Pizza Hut policy, as well as what I've heard about Target; I think it probably is California labor law.

Re: New lunch break requirements
It is like a California Law, if we work more then 5 hours, we have to get a lunch. So how does the 15 30 15 work in a five hour shift?? We have an option to waive our lunch if we work more then 5 hours, but less then 6 hours, and over 10 hours.leftcoaster wrote:Sounds like it might be a California labor law. Its a 15 and a 30. Only two breaks. And a 5 hour shift doesn't require a lunch only over 5.DLRFantasmic!Dan wrote:It is like a California Law, if we work more then 5 hours, we have to get a lunch. Re: New [Disneyland] lunch break requirements
i don't work at DL or WDW but i have worked at McDonald's and two other retuaraunts. in ored to eat any food or take a break of any sort you HAVE to be clocked out. MCdonald's i clocked out, had 30 minutes to eat food, etc and get back on the clock. at the restuaruant i work now i HAVE to be clocked out, can only order between 2-5 and if it's fri, sat or sun, if i'm not a double i don't get half off. also, if i come in and eat (after working) it HAS to be 1 hour after i clocked out.
so yeah, i know DL and WDW are waaaaay busier than a restauraunt or mcd's but...i've always had to clock out. CYA as someone said...personally, i see no big deal. when in high school i had 20 minutes to eat lunch and if i was buying it and didn't get to he cafeteria on time, the line was an 18 minute wait in and of it self just to decide what to eat and then another minute to pay. leaveing you with anywhere from 1-2 minutes to eat....if you could find a place to eat at that point!

Re: New [Disneyland] lunch break requirements
I remember a few times when I worked at Knott's that my breaks would come late because some putz took forever to get back and forth. One time we had this older guy who would go on his break and take forever to get back. And if you spoke to him about it, he would get angry and defensive. As I recall, he didn't last long. I never could figure out what his excuse was. Maybe he couldn't tell time and was quite ashamed/defensive of it, who knows. One time, I was working a 5 hour shift, and I asked my shift leader for a break in the middle of my shift, and stated that according to the handbook, I was supposed to get a break for every 2 hours I worked. His response? "Not today." Of course this was one of those self-important, under-30 little twerps who had brownnosed their way to a shift leader position. The last few months I worked at Knott's, I would fail to get breaks because it took so long to get through the crowds, the other R.O.s were lazy and stayed on break longer, and the kicker was on the next to the last day I worked. I was told that if I didn't get a break that I was entitled to, I was to call Rides 1 and let them know, so they'd give me a break. Funny how when my last break didn't come, and I called, they acted surprised that I'd actually called. I got my break 15 minutes before my shift ended. That wasn't the first time that happened, either. I once didn't get my second lunch (12 hour shift) until a half hour before my shift ended, which also left me short a break. Fortunately, I kept a diary all this time, and when it comes up, they are going to get it in their faces. Another time we got a new shift leader in Camp Snoopy, and she and I got off on the wrong foot. I went on lunch, was told to be back in half an hour, and in order to take my full 30 minute lunch because we had to clock out and in, and getting back and forth on a busy day from Crew's Nest, I didn't get back until 45 min. after I left. I tried to explain this to her, but she blew me off and tracked me anyway. I had this other shift leader named Debbie who is a real space cadet if there ever was one. She told us that despite her having shift leader attire and a radio, she could walk at a normal pace from Camp Snoopy to Crew's Nest in 3 minutes, even though she claimed to get stopped by guests three times oftener than we did. I say, BULLSHIT!!!! We all knew she was full of it. None of us could get to Crew's Nest from Snoopy in under 5 minutes at a normal pace, especially if it was crowded and/or a million guests besieged you with questions. I've already filed a discrimination complaint against Knott's for essentially firing me for going to the bathroom when I needed to (let's face it, just working at Knott's is enough to give anyone the shits.), and if/when they ask if there's anything else, that diary's coming out and I'm going to give them dates and names! But yes, plan ahead; especially after I saw the health inspections for all the eating places at Knott's :barf: :ewww: :puke2:  go to kbfdrama.com (via Yahoo) and search for "Horrible Health Inspections", and click on the link. Believe me, you won't get sick eating food you've brought from home unless you don't keep it at the right tempeture.

Re: New [Disneyland] lunch break requirements
I used to work at Knott's too, and we had to sign out for our lunch and write the time we left for lunch. It sucked because the clock in the office was different then the clocks in the break room. So, on occasions, I was late just a couple of minutes.

Re: New [Disneyland] lunch break requirements
I'm probably gonna have to dodge rotten veggies for what I'm
about to say... but I LIKE clocking in/out for lunch! :: ducks ::
Simply because I'm so damed tired of getting screwed out of 5-10
min. on large attractions because a rotation is going through the same
time as my lunch gets assigned by CDS and the person bringing my
paper can't find me.
Sure, stop by the lead and say "my lunch didn't get to me until just now",
but that itself can be a PITA if they aren't there to fix CDS times.
I've also started bringing my own lunch to avoid Inn Between lines, or
come in a little early and get my lunch there and stick it in the nearest
fridge at the location I'm working, so I'm ready to go when the time
comes.
I'm also looking in to using the scanners near the backstage exits so
I'm not losing the time it takes me to walk backstage.
Yes, clock-in/out is a joke, but it can also have benefits.
Just MHO.

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.

Yeah but you also didn't have to walk through hundreds of people who may stop you along the way and ask you questions. And, you didn't have to walk to another place to get your food either (unless you actually went to another restaurant to eat).NikkiGrrl wrote:i don't work at DL or WDW but i have worked at McDonald's and two other retuaraunts. in ored to eat any food or take a break of any sort you HAVE to be clocked out.
