I'm sorry to bother YOU guys, but do any of you have any pictures or video of Videopolis in all of its' 1980's Glory? I am trying to find some video of the opening, but I would settle for anything at this point. I had a GREAT picture of the stage during the daytime, but my manager through it away back when I worked. It meant nothing to her that it was irreplaceable, and she was shocked that I was EXTREMELY angry about it. I am really into Intelligent Lighting, and Videopolis Stage had the BEST! I was acquaintences with a lighting tech named Bill who worked at Videopolis. He was a great guy. I kept in contact with him until about 5 years ago, and now I can't find him anywhere. Anyway, if you guys would know where I could get me some [video] pleased to let me know [need to translator, LOL].

I realized I don't have a single picture of the original area there...and I was one of the dancers in the commercial for the place when it was launched...
I think I've only got a few pictures of the stage for the old Beauty and the Beast show before they changed the name of the location (anyone else remember having to wear those hideoulsy bright "bellman" costumes for the show there?).
I should have taken pictures of all the musical acts I saw there - Roy Orbison, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Righteous Brothers, Peter Noone...good ol' Blast to the Past...and oh my gosh - how could I forget dancing with Papa Doo Run Run when they had the stage all done up like Hulabaloo - the woodies, the platforms, surfboards, go-go dancers in 60's beach-style attire. I think that was 85/86???

Oh Man, BirdMom, I was so THERE! I remember the Righteous Brothers and Roy Orbison especially. That place was amazing. Designed to compete with Studio K and whatever Tragic Mountain had, they weren't even in the same UNIVERSE as Videopolis. It is too bad that it probably wouldn't work nowadays, because the music just is not as "danceable". I realize it brought in some wierdos, but I was easily able to overlook them. They never bothered me. I was totally afraid of girls[although I loved to watch them on the more than 60 Monitors], so I didn't go to get hooked up, I just liked the technology involved [robot lights, huge moving trusses] and the music and incredible sound system. To this day, if I hear a great sound system, I immediately compare it to Videopolis in my head. Music taste wise, I seem to be stuck between 1984 and 2000, too. If I had the Blast to the Past time machine, that is the time I would go back to.
Speaking of Blast, do you remember the group that played in front of the Castle during Blast to the Past called "The Corvettes"? Man, I loved them. They were awesome, very talented.
During Dick Tracy, I was working split shifts everyday, so I would go during my split and watch the show at least once. My favorite character was Flattop. At the end of every show, I would nod at him, and he would nod back. This happened for a few weeks. Then, one show I noticed that it was a different Flattop, and I heard that the main actor had hurt himself. Well, this guy that was sitting right next to me in the front row looked kind of familiar, and it was HIM! He sat next to me, and was sent out by the other cast members to find out why I kept coming to the show. I told him I just loved it and had nothing better to do, and I really liked his character. He was really nice, and didn't act like I was some wierdo or anything. The nodding continued during the whole run. When it comes down to it, no one else can compete with Disney on stage shows. The music for Dick Tracy, One Mans' Dream, Circus Fantasy and many others just can't be duplicated.
I wish I could remember the commercials BirdMom, I would love to have known you then! [even if you werent in a commercial]

Hmmm...if Im remebering correctly, 'Totally Minnie' was the abomination that happened during that period then I cant recall if it was 'State Fair' or 'Blast To The Past ' that happened next....but I believe those events started in late '87 or early '88.I think that was 85/86???
I still have the emotional scars.
Although I always got a kick out of hearing 'Chantilly Lace' blasting over the park....and filling in the dialogue mentally and sometimes verbally to the Big Bopper at the Squeaky Cleaniest- Family Friendliest place on earth....
P.S. Yes...I know Cleaniest isn't a word.
P.P.S. Oh baby thats a what I like!!!
Keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times.....unless you really dont want to....
