I say calm the fuck down.
Time clocking in and out for breaks/lunches is brilliant.
For several reasons.
Firstly, like others said, it's to cover the (said) companies ass.
Secondly, it covers your ass too.
Also, it keeps most people from going overtime (as a lot of companies are TOTALLY against overtime)
Finally, it keeps dumbasses from suing their company.
I don't care if Disney is doing this just to cover their ass, I do care that they are finally catching up to the rest of corpoate america.
I find it funny however that people get SO mad at the installiation of a time clock just because it "disrupts your free will". Fuck free will. In this world and in this day 'n age, there is no such thing. So quit bitching and come to realize that change has come and won't be gone.

The idea is bullshit. We all love our 30 minute breaks in ODV. We have fought it before when they tried to force it on us. It usually takes us two or three minutes to get backstage (this is of course not counting a stupid question from a guest. That could delay you another minute.) So, that means you spend five minutes of walking time. You have 10 minutes left of your break. You can either choose to eat or go to the bathroom. You can't do both in 10 minutes. Some break that is!
Also, in the past if you were one minute late from your break (It happens to all of us. Especially when a guest stops you) then it was no big deal. Your relief doesn't care. It's just a minute. But now?!?!? We're going to get in trouble! If you accidentally take a 16 minute break you're going to be screwed! Why else would they install those goddamn things? It's to get us in trouble.
What kind of bullshit is that? I really don't think I want to work with a company that will mark me late because I had the nerve to accidentally take a 16 minute break. Is that the kind of bullshit that an employee should be expected to deal with?
I blame this on Matt Ouimet. He's a dick. He treats employees like shit. His logic is: in order to make the guests happy, I must take away anything and everything the employees love about their job.
Well, it's going to bite him in the ass soon. Word has gotten out that Disneyland is a shitty place to work for. Hardly anyone is applying and people are leaving in record numbers, especially in foods. Morale is low. Soon it will be as bad as Knotts.
Cynthia Harris didn't treat employees like that. She was actually nice to them. Guess what? Most employees back then liked their jobs.

I was talking about this to fellow CM yesterday while working parades. One of them said that we might have 2 minutes after our breaks/ lunch to be over before we get marked late. He also said that this was all because of what happened to the employees at Walmart, taking 10 minutes break, and not getting paid for the 5 min that they were actually working.

I'm not sure which laws Disneyland/DCA has to follow, being under a collective bargaining agreement, (and given the fact that I'm not a Cast Member (yet?)) but for most employees in the state of California, employees must recieve a 30 minute meal break if they work in excess of 5 hours, and a 10 minute rest break for every 4 hours worked, according to the information at http://www.harriskaufman.com/faq.htm#meals. So if you're working more than 3 hours but less than 5 and being given a 15 minute break, I would think lady ulrike is correct in saying that 5 of those minutes are walk time. Additionally, the 10 minute rest breaks are supposed to be paid breaks, in designated break areas, while the 30 minute breaks are unpaid and the employer has no control over what you choose to do with this time. You could theoretically leave the resort if given an unpaid meal break, but given what I've read on this board, that would be unwise.

The law requires us to have only 10 min breaks, the extra 5 min is a courtesy thing from Disney. For Disney, if we are working more then 6.5 hours, we get a lunch. If we work at least 5.25 hours, we get two breaks. The thing is sometimes, we get our breaks early, or even late sometimes, depending how long we are working. They might have to be squished together.

at knott's berry farm we are given 10 mins and two and a half to walk to and from the break room and 30 min and two and a half to walk to and from the break room

I think clocking in/out for a 30min break is brilliant, because in my area people would abuse their break length, and not return on time with no penality to their paycheck. This way people will be held accountable for their break, and if they are late it's their own problem, and their paycheck will suffer, I could see adding a 2-3 minute buffer, but some people in tland are well known for their 1-1.5 hour breaks, and clocking in/out will prevent them from doing that, they'll want their money.
