Jungle Cruise

I am just back home from a 4-day visit to Disneyland (October 28- October 31), and I want to thank the CM's from Jungle Cruise for their lame jokes. I enjoyed them so much, that I went on the ride over and over again (hey, once in a while you get to hear a new joke!)

Thank you also to the Jungle Cruise CM (whom I asked if he bites guests that sit down close to them) for helping me find my Minnie ears back on the Indiana Jones-ride, after forgetting them in the jeep.

I was at DL October 20th, and we had a great CM on our Jungle Cruise ride, he had me laughing through the whole thing! I love lame jokes. :D:

I don't know about the skipper's names... I went on the Jungle Cruise during 4 days, about 5 times a day, and I always had different skippers.

But they were all good!

My skipper was an older guy... maybe late 50s. I was sitting right in the back and I couldn't see a name tag, otherwise I would have left him a compilment. :)

I recall someone put up a tribute web page to the Jungle Cruise. He had hundreds of the one liners that the CMs use.

Does anyone know the "background" of the JC script? I've heard that officially, the CMs are "supposed" to stick to the original script, but most of the jokes are 'handed down' from one CM to another? But if a suit hears a CM not sticking to script, that CM can be written up?

I have been to some of the JC-jokes websites, they are really good, but are not complete. Hmm, maybe I should start a website where everyone can send the jokes they heard during their cruise too, and thus have an almost complete library of JC-jokes...

I have read somewhere (was it here?) that CMs got fired because they didn't stick to the 1937-theming of the ride with their jokes. Pff, as if someone cares the ride is supposed to take place in the 30's!
We only go on the ride to see the Bengal tigers that can weigh up to 500 pounds and jump up to 20 feet (thank God the boat is 19 feet away), elephants that have their trunks on, and old zebra's that are sleeping and being protected by such nice lions. Oh, and not to forget, the cute skippers that give you 7 romantic nights! (who wants to go on a cruise with the Love Boat if you can hve a Jungle Cruise? ha!) :p:

Well, I'm not a JC CM, but I have heard that the official script is huge. At storybook, we have alternates for almost every scene and it's my understanding that JC does too they just have several alternates. I think they are less strict than they used to be about sticking exactly to the script, again I can speak for book and I know as long as we're talking about the cartoon the scene's based on and keeping up the Disney image we can pretty much say anything. I've come up with a few things on my own that I double checked with the lead and they've all been fine. My spiel is vastly different than the script we learn on.

the amount of flexibility you have at jungle is mainly dependant on the current managment and how much they like you. When I was there the unofficial rule was anything goes unless you're causing problems in other areas or a guest complains. A lot of people got very good at judging how far they could go with a certain boat.

as for the size of the script it's not that big, only 4-6 alternates per scene and one of them educational and not funny at all... yes, it's completely ok to not be funny on the JC. (it's our National Geographic spiel)
