Bureaucracy

Post by PirateJohn » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:47 pm

Dontcha just love it when bureaucratic rules mean that us folks get screwed? I just sat through a University Leader info session today only to find out I can't apply because I got a safety 11 months ago and you can't have safeties for 12 months prior to the application.

Gimme a break! I have a stellar record with one exception (basically dispatched a boat when I wasn't supposed to -- nobody got hurt or even complained but my lead saw it) and because that one exception occured within a matter of weeks from an arbitrarily chosen date, I am not allowed to apply for Univeristy Leader. Really now, is there something magical that occurs at the 12 month point that suddenly makes an error okay as opposed to a showstopper?

I'm getting increasingly disgruntled. I'm giving Disneyland one more chance -- I'm applying for trainer at Pirates this month. Of course, if they don't accept me for good reason, I'll accept that as long as they give me a good plan for improving. But if they say the reason they don't accept me is because of one stupid incident last October, I think it's going to be time for me to move on. I doubt I'll even give two weeks notice.

At some point in my working days I came up with the Three Screwings Policy. Basically, if I got screwed by management, the company, anyone in the company, it was time to move on. This doesn't include minor irritations but major stuff like getting passed over for promotion, crappy review, crappy raise, etc. It worked very well and kept me sane.

You might as well quit because they will still tell you about the incident and deny you to apply for trainer. If one department doesn't let you apply because of a safety/written or verbal, it's the same throughout the resort. It applies for any position in the resort.

You said it happened 11 months ago? I would wait one/two months till it drops off and then you can apply for stuff without a problem.

PirateJohn they let me apply for Trainer with a Verbal for guest incident (I still believe I was right) and let me take an application for lead.
