Discrimination...on Smokers?
Re: Discrimination...on Smokers?
I’m a smoker and I just spend three days at Disneyland.
First I’ll start off by saying that the no smoking policy sucks but I remember when it was ok to smoke everywhere and people got very rude about it. They’d be standing in line and you’d have nowhere to go to get away from the smoke. Another thing I remember is, as kid, running through the crowd I got burned on several occasions from running into cigarettes.
Keeping in mind that the park is really there for the kids first and then the kids at heart, I don’t mind the limitations on smoking in the park. An out right ban would not be good though.
I found an unsaid happy medium(sp?) that seemed to work pretty well. I basically smoked were I wanted to within reason.
I avoided crowded areas or anything enclosed.
I avoided all kids.
I held the cigarette in my palm so if I was run into I was the only one at risk of being burned.
And when I exhaled I blew the air fast as to not create a cloud. And at 6ft 3in I was able to blow the smoke well above everyone’s head.
My justification for this infraction was that the rules were for those that were inconsiderate and rude about their habit. I made sure that it was not obvious and that if anyone was exposed to it the exposure was very limited. This worked for me and I was not bothered once by a CM.
Plenty of CM saw what I was doing I was not trying to totally hide it, but I could see them notice and decide not to say anything. This was greatly appreciated by myself.
I did however see others pounced on by CM’s and they were told to put it out or move to a smoking section. One of the guest that was pounced was a poor guy who asked me for a light. When I lit his cigarette he was pounced on before he finished his first drag. They hustled him off and never noticed that I had a lit cigarette too. Of course I was holding it inside my hand.
It seemed to me to be a case of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” or rather “Don’t be an ass, about it and we won’t bother you”. Though this is not a spoke rule or anything it seemed to work for me. Its ether that or I’m just real lucky!
As for the three smoking stations across Disneyland. None of them are well marked, there all very hard to find. Most of the CM had no idea were they really were. The one in tomorrow land was ok, it had shade and chairs. The one in by Tom Sawyers Island sucked, it had the best view, but it was in full sun with no were to sit down. The last one under the monorail tracks was ok as it had shade and a place to sit.
My feeling is that they need more smoking sections if they really expect the smokers to comply. Its not as though there’s a lack of little places to stick them. I found dozens of them that I could use, be out of the way, and not bother anyone.
That’s just my two cents on the subject from spending three days at Disneyland.

Not one of the CM's mentioned that one.saidthekat wrote:there's a fourth on the big thunder trail...
That's actually pretty funny, the guy who got busted when I lit his cigarette was maybe 20 feet from there and they sent him all the way down to the Monorail smoking section.

Big Thunder Trail becomes very popular @ night as a smoking place for weed as well as an out of view place for doing other drugs. Oh, what one learns in Custodialsaidthekat wrote:there's a fourth on the big thunder trail...

I usually used the rule if you aren't an ass about smoking, or somebody doesn't complain about the smoke I wouldn't say anything. Then again if they were inside a building or someplace that could be considered a building I would tell them that they would have to have put the cig out. Then again if Florida banns all smoking in public buildings except for a bar.

People who would harm a CM should be round up and shot to improve the gene pool! You should feel safe in the Happiest place on earth!Main Streeter wrote:Big Thunder Trail becomes very popular @ night as a smoking place for weed as well as an out of view place for doing other drugs. Oh, what one learns in CustodialHATE Big Thunder Trail because security is almost none existent  Won't walk it alone!
Where exactly is "Big Thunder Trail"? Is it the path that goes around Thunder Mountain to the north?
My hats off to all the custodial CMs. The park was soooo clean I couldn’t believe it. It seems things have changed a bit over the last 10 years. The last time I visited Disneyland was in ‘95 and it didn't seem as clean. Also the rides look a lot better than they did in ‘95 (paint, ware and tare, etc.), plus more of them were open.
O, for the record, when I smoke while walking around the park I NEVER leave a butt lying around. "No evidence is better" plus I know they can be a pain to sweep up.

big thunder trail is scary at night...
not only is it dark and isolated, but also rumored to be haunted.

Here in So Cal the ONLY two buildings you can smoke in. One is "Private property" (Your house or someone else’s, if they allow it). The second is the two or three businesses in all of So Cal that applied for, purchased, AND maintain a smoking permit

I wish Disneyland had that permit!

You cannot smoke in bars in So Cal. It really sucks! When I drink I smoke and I know it’s that way for a lot of people.

So were pretty use to being singled out and slapped around

I feel sorry for the out of state or out of country people

Re: Discrimination...on Smokers?
Except....on the tram it is told "There is no smoking except in designated areas" I'm not trying to bag on smokers, but I am sensitive to smoke and I don't like to be around smokers when smoking. Most smokers I deal with are cool about it and I try to help them out by directing them to the nearest smoking area. It's on the map, and they are marked (kinda)
I used to work at Legoland and the smoking policy was very loose. Basically you didn't smoke in line or in patios. I hated going out to the patio (I worked at a food location) to tell people they couldn't smoke here. Look sorry there are kids about other people are eating.

These are the rafts TO the island. Not AROUND, not OVER, not UNDER and not THROUGH. Thank you for riding T. Saywer's shuttle service please visit again.
Re: Discrimination...on Smokers?
There are also a few tobacco stores that I have seen many a person smoking in down here in San Diego. And there is one bar I have found in San Diego that doesn't care if you smoke in it. Rare finds, those bars.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
