A new one for my list

Post by Disgruntled Hatwriter » Tue Jun 28, 2005 2:31 am

I've been at Disney for over a year and decided to become a hatwriter. I love it but have ended up dealing with more crud from guest as a hatwriter than in my entire existence at Disney. In the last week alone I've been yelled at/given attitude for not writing such NICKnames as Donkey, Pickles, and Torks. I’ve had attitude thrown my way because we don’t write with any other color thread but white. And have been rudely questioned by guests on our hat policies and when I explain, have them give me more attitude for not liking my explantion. So, by now I have my entire routine all set out and then I get a guest who asks if I can add an apostrophe and 4th to his hat (so it' d read “Blank's 4th”). Like to many guests before him I explain I cannot do that. Only Legal first names or nicknames that descend from first names. I also add that I'm untrained in doing anything out of cursive handwriting and even if I wanted to I couldn't add it for I simply don't know how. But I do suggest Showcase down at Disneyland ‘cause they have that newer computerized machine. He still tries to convince me, I REexplain why I can't, then he’s like ok.

So, I do the guest’s first hat. As I do it he walks behind the register and comes up behind me while I write and is like "I just wanna see how you do it" I'm like w/e and finish his hat. All of a sudden he ONCE AGAIN tries to convince me to add the ‘s and 4th. Then he goes, “What if I give you a five spot" (and yes he was serious). The first thing that pops into my head is “uh, no” the next is “were you not paying attention when I suggested Showcase like a minute ago? You can add 3 more bucks to that 5 spot and get your hat done the way you want it”. So I explain once again (yeah, I’m tired of saying it as much as you are reading it) why I can’t add the stuff then REsuggest Showcase. He’s hesitant, asks questions, and finally heads for Showcase.

So now I can add bribery to my list, nice :-P

Hey, I think the guest can read our lips...WE SAID YOU SUCK! :aliens:

Our trenches are sad ]I hope you get split ends [/I] :D: :D: :) And they want me to become a hat writer. No way in .... thanks to your attitude stories ;)

How sad. I don't remember people wanting rude names on their hats before. I had some weird ones - people naming their kids Prince so-and-so or after obscure characters from fantasy fiction, but what the hey. So it's only white thread now? We only used to have yellow thread - I guess that wouldn't show up on the Gold mouse ears... I remember writing New Edition, NKOTB for some young girls...

Digruntled Hatwriter - give it time. You will be able to write anything and everything in a while (numbers included), once you're confident in your control of the annoying crank. When it was slow, we used to have hatwriting contests where we would try to do the alphabet in a circle without stopping (on layers of paper towels) or go over what we had just written stitch by stitch. There was this one guy who could go over what he just wrote backwards stitch by stitch. You will have to wait until January before you can do things like that, with the crowds for the anniversary and all, but it's amazing what you can do in the hat shop when all the shelves are stocked and dusted, the bows are made for Minnie ears and there are no guests around. It does happen from time to time... ;)

Disgruntled? Are you a guy in the Mad Hatter?

If you are, I just want you to know that I stopped in there on a recent visit and was just charmed by the way you handled my mouse ears purchase.

Our 15 second interaction was, seriously, one of the highlights of my day.
