Re: Presenteeism
I guess, there again, I can't really complain. On any given day, if I take surface streets, it only takes me 20 minutes at the most to get to K-Lot. If I decide to take the freeway, it takes less than 10.
But still. That meeting made me wonder why I came in at all that day.

Re: Presenteeism
I found it funny that I was sent to that session my first day back from a weeklong "vacation" (combination of scheduled days off and call-ins). I think it would have been more productive to instead have our managers one-on-one with us for like 15 minutes to tell us about the new suspension procedures and maybe touch base with where our points stand.
Someone at the session I attended mentioned that it's hypocritical for them to be telling us they're taking a positive approach by calling it "Presenteeism" instead of "Absenteeism" but having a negative points system.
We were busy the day I went and I was the only runner at DLH that morning. Needless to say a lot of people were mad that I was gone.

Mine was at Millionaire.LostMalfoy wrote:Okay, I agree that both of you, Wizard and MainStreeter, had it worse off than me. Sounds like you both had to head to TDA for this, whereas, I was in Off the Page that night, and only had to go to Millionaire.
Re: Presenteeism
I agree with you. A 15 minute meeting with a manager would have been sufficient. I ended up talking to my manager (who was at the presentation) about the crapping presentation anyways right after it.SRT_GB wrote:I found it funny that I was sent to that session my first day back from a weeklong "vacation" (combination of scheduled days off and call-ins). Re: Presenteeism
I just SO did NOT want to hear all that crap after working a third week of
55+ hours and missing 2 days and late 3 times in my entire four years at
DLR.
The presenter of the presenteeism I had to watch was RUDE to the CM's
that boxed her Mgmt. 101 responses. She went as far as to point an
imaginary remote control and shouted "PAUSE" at a CM that was making a
very valid point to her poorly organized resposnses.
The above mentioned point was that HR uses a 'model' for the no-fault
point system and it was based on years of averaging and real life situations.
Someone asked if that was the same model that they used to predict the
wildly high guest attrendance that caught the park with it's pants down.
Then came the "PAUSE". (I.E. - I can't answer that.)
Well sorry, Trixie. Nobody can afford to live near the park at the wages
this place pays anymore. The I-91 is a 10 hour a day parking lot to just
slightly more affordable housing. Shutdowns occur daily with little or no
notice and the last thing you want to do at this point is make happy, little
bouncy threats to your staff. I'll be calling in the entire weekend of the 17th,
and you may jolly well run it yourself. Be sure to include a snazzy Powerpoint
screen for the pissed-off guests to enjoy when service goes down the toilet.
Have an extra magical weekend! :D:

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.

Re: Presenteeism
Wow! Can you read minds? That's exactly how I feel. How dare they lecture us about not having perfect attendance? They created this problem by being so stupid in the first place with those fucking line schedules. But it doesn't matter to them does it? They sit in their cushy, air-conditioned offices and still get their big salaires and big bonuses. They still get to keep their 5 day work week. They still get their vacations.
Perhaps when guest service continues to go down the toilet maybe they will realize there is a problem. That's a big maybe. Or maybe Matt Ouimet will realize he is working with a bunch of morons and decide to make some changes. I'm not too sure. It seems he hasn't noticed. He's just enjoying everyone kissing his ass.
It's very simple. When you treat cast members like crap you are going to have unhappy, bitter cast members. Do you really think these cm's are going to be happy and helpful to all the guests? Hardly. Magic? What magic?
If this keeps up, Disney will quickly be losing their reputation. We're already known for our huge lines, soon we're also going to be known as the "unhappiest place on Earth."

Re: Presenteeism
That's funny my boyfriend and I were just talking about this. Basically the way they're going, there's going to be no reason to pick Disney over any other theme park. I mean Disney gives benefits for part time, that's the main reason I'm still there, if they pull my benefits, I might as well work at another park where I'm not expected to be quite so friendly and I can speak my mind more.

Re: Presenteeism
This new policy is going to, to use the words of a fellow cast member in my department, "Clean house." Already two people in my area were termed because of infractions, and I have a feeling that they won't be the last on the chopping block.
Excess infractions doesn't necessarily make them a poor cast member. We could lose a lot of the best people we have just because of a few bad days.

Re: Presenteeism
Being a former scheduling cast member (wait before you hate!!!) I worked as a stage scheduler so I didn't actually make the schedules, just did the best to accommodate cast member needs. The truth of the matter is, it's a double edged sword. The only reason Stage Schedulers schedule outside of availability is because there just aren't enough cast members employed. Now I know what you're thinking (why don't they just hire more?) HR is doing their best but not that many people are applying, not to mention all the people that are being termed or quitting daily. From what I understand the idea of bringing line schedules back was the idea of a large enough group of cast members to bring them back. (be careful what you wish for....) One thing I learned though while working up there are there quite a few cast members who still have the fortune of living at home so only work to pay off their monthly credit card bill and if they did not feel like working would call in. Also by introducing "call dependents" we just gave a lot people another reason to call in and not worry about points. A lot of people would call in who didn't qualify to call in dependent but would lie. I know this because I worked up there long enough to get to know quite a few cast members and knew their background, but my job was to put them down as what they called in. I could go on about various issues but the bottom line is, there just aren't enough people to meet a satisfactory need. :(
