Presenteeism
Presenteeism
Does anyone else find it strange that they pull us from our work areas to talk to us about not being at our work areas?

Re: Presenteeism
seriously, i don't see why people are getting all bent out of shape over this. disney seriously spoils us with the amount of absenteeism they actually allow. calling in sick has been a huge deal at every other job i've had. at disney, it's not a huge deal as long as you watch your points... oops, i mean "infractions".
apparently, they figured out that saying "points" makes it sound like a game.

Re: Presenteeism
I think the biggest problem right now is that scheduling has a nasty habit of regularly scheduling people on days for which they write in bold caps, "UNAVAILABLE!!!" Disneyland has to realize that for a large percentage of CM's, the pay is insufficient for the CM's not to require a second job. And many CM's, myself included, are college students and are not going to forego education for the sake of Disneyland.
If the park wants to employ CM's that are able to put Disneyland's scheduling needs above their own, then the pay needs to be increased dramatically to the point where the casting center can be more choosy about whom they hire. Until then, CM's who are continually scheduled on days that they have already stated they can't work are going to be forced to call in.
Example: I put myself in as fully available every day of the week except for after 4:30 on Wednesdays. You'd think that scheduling would have no trouble accommodating that. But nooooo, they scheduled me 10:15 - 5:15 this coming Wednesday. Now to get to school on time, I'm going to have to sprint from my attraction to Harbor Pointe, go to class in my costume, pray that traffic isn't too bad, and still probably be late nonetheless.
I'm fully available for 162.5 of the 168 hours in the week, and for some reason they still can't work around that.
In the end, the message to CM's is that the park prefers a person to be completely unavailable (read: fired) as opposed to available only three days a week. This is the major problem right now, and this must be fixed if they want the current scheduling system to work at all.

Re: Presenteeism
First of all, I thought this meeting was pointless. They go over things that are reiterated in orientation, and gone over in training, yet I still had people asking questions like, "If I left my house two hours early, and there's traffic that I'm not responsible for, then there's a accident, and I still get there late, will I get the infraction?" ... um... YES! *hangs head*murf wrote:Does anyone else find it strange that they pull us from our work areas to talk to us about not being at our work areas?
Secondly, they scheduled this meeting for me on a day where I only had a four hour shift, but the location I was in, was one you needed additional training for. They take me away for this thing, when I could have been of much more use at my store.
What with the ten minutes it took for check in, the hour long presentation, my fifteen minute break, and the twenty minutes they allow for walking time at the end of my shift, I really only worked a grand total of 2.25 hours. What was the point?!

I agree. This was a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!LostMalfoy wrote:First of all, I thought this meeting was pointless. I brought up the fact that I thought it was bullshit that if you make an effort to come to work on time, work your shift for most of the time and then get sick and go home, you get 3 points. They proceeded to tell me "If you are good with your points, then 3 points won't matter" What the hell kinda bullshit answer is that? When I brought up the point, a bunch of other cast members said they agreed with me. I have excellent points but STILL that's bullshit if I am gonna get 3 points for being sick. Now, I have never done this, but next time I am sick, i'm just gonna puke, cough, or whatever on the guests and not go to CFA so they can send me home and give me 3 bullshit points.
I may sound like i'm anal but i'd like to keep as clean a record as possible.
I got one up on you! :) They did the same thing to me. I checked in at 4:30, walked to the meeting which was supposed to start at 5:00. It ended up starting at 5:30 and ending at 6:30. So I get back at 6:45, take my 15 minute break until 7 and then I walked at 8:10.Secondly, they scheduled this meeting for me on a day where I only had a four hour shift, but the location I was in, was one you needed additional training for. The only thing this meeting did was piss off the cast members more.

Re: Presenteeism
If these idiotic managers have problems with CMs calling in sick, transportation and etc, then they should either hire more people or do things that will prevent hard working cast members to quit, no-show or call in. I am right behind you guys on this issue when it comes to school combined with Disney and/or second jobs. These managers need to wake up and smell the roses!

Re: Presenteeism
This is my first post here although I signed up ages ago, however I completely agree about that program being a waste of time. They talked about us having to be there and to a certain extent they were just making it so confusing and hectic with the rotations and teams on my attraction. At Storybook we had to pull a boat out and then put one back and we couldn't run as many as we usually can because of this random presentation. I just wanted to fall asleep and was just waiting for the hour to be over.
Just glad that they are over now.

Re: Presenteeism
Okay, I agree that both of you, Wizard and MainStreeter, had it worse off than me. Sounds like you both had to head to TDA for this, whereas, I was in Off the Page that night, and only had to go to Millionaire.
Re: Presenteeism
This is one of the main reasons I don't work for DLR any longer. I had a 40 minute commute (without traffic) so I left my house at least 2 hours before my shift so I wouldn't have to incur the dreaded points - I'm anal like you Wizard. I wanted a spotless record. So for a 4 hour shift (my usual  ) I be traveling for 3 hours and had to use FastTrak. It just wasn't worth it.LostMalfoy wrote: I still had people asking questions like, "If I left my house two hours early, and there's traffic that I'm not responsible for, then there's a accident, and I still get there late, will I get the infraction?" ... um...
