Yes, I agree. But nowadays, I don't think they are teaching "fun with phonics" anymore. (Are they? :confused :)

I'd also bet that many guests are going by what friends told them. "You have to see Fantasia!" THEN add to that what you said, that many don't actually grab a guidemap before/when they come through the gates, and they wander around the park(s) in a daze with saucer-plate eyes. They have NO IDEA where they are going, what they are doing, what they WANT to do. Most likely, their screamers (kids) have also heard from their friends about what things to ride, so they say aloud, "I wanna go on 'the car ride,' ET, see the whales, and meet Mickey!" So mommy and daddy go trudging around the park, and when they can't find ET, they go and ask you, "Where is ET?" :p: Or later in the evening (remember they were drinking wine, and socializing with their friends), they want to see a showing of "Fantasia," and they can't find the theater, so they ask you.

Regarding the car: Have you ever read the manual for your car? True it does not tell you the intricate workings of your transmission, but if you own a car, I feel it's your responsibility to at least learn some basics. Especially the maintaince schedule... when to change the oil, transmission fluid, etc. It's also a good idea to learn how to change a tire, and how to properly jump start your car. A friend of mine also puts a dab of white out on the dash over each gauge, showing the "normal" mark. That way, he can see at a glance if something is 'off.'

Also, as I said before, when you have a problem with your car, do you go to the shop and say "the dohickey is not working?"

NOTE: I am NOT siding with the guests. I am simply pointing out what I feel is the problem. As I said before, asking where the Jaws ride is, when is the next Shamu show, etc is just plain STUPID.

Yeah, but the car thing I've never ever said the dohickey isn't working. If I do not know what the equipment name is I'll either look it up, ask my mom who is a mechanic or just point it out and say this part isn't working right. :D:

I work at guest service desk on the weekends and I have people walk up to my desk and say they want to go to Disneyland and want a map. I tell them Disneyland is in California, and Disney World is in Florida. They say, "Oh, I meant there." So I say which park do they want the map for and they say "Disney World", and I say "Disney World is the name of the whole thing, which park?". Then they say "Oh, well, the main one", or "the one with the rides." I usually give them a map of Universal and send them on their way. ;)

I remember long before I worked at a Disney park -- I was sixteen years old and my family was planning a trip to Florida (we lived in Massachusetts). My dad was the president of a convention in Orlando so my mom and I tagged along to make it a vacation.

A few days before we left, a friend asked me if we'd be going to Disney World, to which I replied, "of course! Where else is there to go?" (At the time, Universal didn't exist and the only other theme park in the Orlando area was Sea World.)

"Well," she replied, "there's EPCOT --"

"Uh, EPCOT is part of Disney World."

"No it isn't!"

We must have argued for several minutes. She was adamant that EPCOT was not part of Disney World. I laughed my head off about it afterward.

I had a guest tell me one time that they wanted to go to "Toon Lagoon". I asked them, "You mean Islands of Adventure, because that is an area in there?" They said "No, the water park one", and then I asked "You mean "Typhoon Lagoon???"
Sometimes I think I could probably send them to Universal and tell them they are going to Disney.

My personal favorite was when I had picked up a shift doing PAC at the Studios - I had a guest come up and ask me when Orgasmic was starting.

Needless to say, I smiled and told him that Fantasmic! would start that evening promptly at 7:00pm :D:

When Express was still new to Universal/IOA, they had employees working the machines. Many times guests would ask for an express ticket to the Hulk Hogan coaster. :shrug:
