Fortunately, for me, most of the 'serious collectors' would shop first thing in the morning. Because that's when we put out the 'good stuff' right? That and they want first pick (from the stuff leftover from the night before....) and they can get out their magnifying glasses and look for flaws without a crush of people.
But occasionally, I would work opening and occasionally we'd get a collector nights.
Mugs. They wanted mugs. Ok. I can understand that. No problem. Choose a bleepin' mug and get on with life.
But no. They would examine each one. Intently. Microscopic flaws would be located and the mug rejected. Often, all the mugs would be rejected. Please fetch more from the back room....
Sure....no problem. Happy Happy Joy Joy. None of those will do either? Let me fetch MORE.
There is an unending supply of mugs (or dolls or what the F ever) in the store room. The store room is as big as all outdoors so we can stock 2000 Snow White Limited Edition, 50th Anniversary mugs.
In actuality there are about 5-10 mugs in the back. Just take out 3 or 4 at a time, recycling what you brought out 3 times already.... It's amazing how a previously rejected mug will suddenly be PERFECT!
When I was at The Emporium we sold these figurines of children. They were fairly large as figurines go. They were made of clay. It appeared that in order to make the eyes, the 'artist' simply stuck a pointed pencil in the clay and declared the resulting hole an eye.
Those damn things creeped the living daylights out of all of us. We all reported having a nightmare about those things.
Heaven help the poor CM who had to help a guest who LOVED them and wanted to see ALL of them and MORE of them. They were kept in a back corner of the store room. A bit darker than the rest of the storeroom.
It's where they chanted and plotted their evil overthrow of the Disney Empire. We always said that they were Eisner's minions.....

This kinda reminds me of a story I heard when I worked for Pac Bell. One company was set up with a switchboard that could be used with a switching system or as a manual board. One of the features for the manual configuration was a small crank hooked up to a magneto that would ring a telephone when cranked.GeorgieL. wrote: In actuality there are about 5-10 mugs in the back. The operator was, at best, a real piece of work. Complained about anything and everything. One long suffering repairman had finally had it with all the abuse and told her that her current complaint was caused by low battery voltage (the system had none). He instructed her to spin the crank for five minutes every morning when she got to work.
Four years later another repairman was on site early for some routine maintenance. He observed her spinning the crank and asked why. When she told him why, he explained that the system had no batteries and she was basically wasting her time. Talk about an explosion.
Luckily, she had forgotten who told her to spin the crank all those years ago.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: It's all about keeping guests happy, right?
Yesterday, I had an incident while trying to keep one guest happy, but there was another that complained. O k here it goes:
I am on Astro Orbitor, it was almost park closing. Characters called to say they were doing a ride along around 7:30, 7:30 came around and they didn't show. It was like 5 to 10 minutes when they showed up. Any way, I let a kid go with Mickey, but when he got on, someone else was riding with him. Keep in mind that Mickey , Minnie, and Goofy are riding along. I asked the character host how many cycles the characters will be going, he said about three times. A guest asked me how many times they will be on for, I said three times and that's about it. At the end of the third cycle, the mother of the kid that was going to go with Mickey came to me and told me that her kid didn't go on with Mickey because someone else took it. I told them that I would get her kid on the next one. I went over to the Character host and asked if the characters can go one more round and he said sure. After I dispatched that cycle, the mother complained to me that her kid wanted to go with the characters, but was already on riding in that cycle. I tried to explain it to her, but couldn't find the words to tell her what I was trying to say. What we do to make guests happy.

some guests just come to the park to complain. there really isn't anything you can do. the round rides like astro or dumbo seem to attract these people like a magnet.

Wazoski is merely stating what I have been saying for about a year now...... when guests step into the park they get dumb when they get to Dumbo they get even dumber. He's just assuming it's the same for Astro.DLRFantasmic!Dan wrote:HEY!! What are you sating exactly??? :D:

I have to admit I was the idiot guest in a similar situation, but the CM's involved were very nice to me about it.
I was living in Mass at the time but visiting Cali on vacation. They were selling limited edition DVD sets, so I bought a bunch but looked for ones with the lowest edition numbers on them (yeah, they have more collector value thataway). So I bought about three sets and walked into the next shop over and found one set that had a much lower number on the same set I bought. The CM let me switch the two.
