KBF Rank Structure vs DLR

Post by SmoothOperator » Thu Apr 07, 2005 9:53 am

This is a simple question out of pure curiousity that requires a long explaination. I'm tying to compare the differences between Knott's employee ranking structure with that of the Disneyland Resort, since I will be starting there soon after spending a little less than a year at KBF. Below is the ranking system of Knott's. I can't recall anyone ever taking the time to explain it online. It starts from the top and works it's way down:

Alpha Blues- These employees are the department heads. They wear blue badges (when they are in the mood) and use radio designators that begin with Alpha. (Example: Alpha 3 to Station K) Alpha One was up until recently Jack Falfas. He was the ulitmate day to day authority and one of the few authorized to shut the park down. Alpha One is also the only position in the park to have the right to a security detail Secret Service style. Being the manly man that Falfas was (he once dug ditches in front of me for ten-plus hours in 90 degree heat) he rarely if ever used this privledge.

Blue Badges- These are statused employees with displineary tracking ablities. They could track anyone in the park below themselves. Has authority over all park Reds and Greens.

Red Badges- Any park employee over the age of 18. Could be a shift leader without tracking status. In emergency situations has authority over Greens who cannot perform high risk tasks such as Security or Ride Operations.

Green Badges- The lowest rung in the park. Basiclly underneath everyone else. Under 18 with no grant of any legal authority.

Alright, now that I have explained that, does Disney have anything quite so regimented? As a guest I've never been able to detect any ranking system like that other than my knowledge of leads and such. I have not seen any visable signs that one Disney CM is above the other, unlike KBF where its plainly obvious.

Sorry I have to say it...
"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

"A little swordplay, now and then, keeps my mind off sheep!"

"You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

Why am I not surprised? LOL. But then how will stupid guests learn their colors?

Jesus! I'm glad I'm no longer there, now. No wonder morale there is so low!

Well, not obvious to most guests, but WDW access control will issue several different ID styles

White - temporary ID, issued to newhires less than 100 days, and CPs
Green - Operating Participant, doesn't work for WDW directly, but is still somewhat involved (i.e. Scaramark, DTD restaurants, Cirque du Soleil performers, facepainters)
Red - seasonal CM that works more than 300 hours in a calendar year
Yellow - regular hourly CM
Blue - salaried employee (management)
Blue with silver stripe - Executive

Managers and non-costumed cast are generally the only ones that will display their ID while working

As far as what is visible to the guests, at least in the areas I've worked in, we don't have "leads", but we have "coordinators", who are not management, but are a step above "front line" CM's. (Coordinators will usually be in costume)

(Edit to add: yes, I realize the thread title was asking about DLR and my responses are for WDW)
