hi..not sure if this is the place, but given this can happen at WDW (and other amusement parks as well) I was wondering what happens to books that people leave on trams, in attractions, and park benches?
I just joined an online book site that 'hunts' for books.. and they are supposed to have 'bookcrossing.com' stickers in them to let people know they aren't lost but 'traveling books' ...kind of like a international bookloan system. When you find the book you go to the website and enter the Bookcrossing ID number and let folks know you found it.. and what you did with the book (read, set free, loaned, etc) I just recently found out about it and it seems like it's a pretty popular thing that's been around.. not sure why with all the reading friends I have that I haven't heard of it sooner.. but I digress....
I know at DLR when one finds a book or anything a guest leaves behind they immediately turn it in to lost & found.. so I don't know is that the case? Are all these books just ending up in lost & found? I find it a little frustrating that people think it's ok to just leave something lying around in the park. :?:
Anyway.. I got two updates tonight from the 'bookcrossing bot" saying someone just left a couple books at the park again.. grumble.. not sure if this works but: http://www.bookcrossing.com/hunt/1/5/15 ... yland-Tram
one was actually left at HM I guess.. I wish there was a polite and helpful way to get folks to stop leaving their books at the park.. it defeats the purpose of their doing the bookcrossing thing.. :!:
BookCrossings in the DLR/WDW lost & found??

Re: hmm
right I understand that part how it works.. That's exactly what they did in fact. My question is when they're 'set free' at DLR where do they go? I'm betting a lot of these books end up in Lost & Found.. which is totally not what they are wanting to happen.. If I were to actually set a book free, I would never leave a book at Disneyland or WDW for that very reason.. I'm wondering if the folks that do that know they aren't leaving their books in a smart place to get traveled at all.pnutshuman wrote:maybe they decided to "set it free" at DL? just an idea

Everything I've ever lost as a guest at DLR (can't say that for WDW but then I lost a Rufus Mole Rat) has *always* shown up at Lost & Found... We had a 100% guest service from Lost & Found.. (btw, good job folks!)

I don't know.. they keep stats on success rates of things in some manner.. but I don't know how. I know they keep stats on how many people are registered and where.. how many books are registered.. but they go inactive after a certain period. I know there are many OFFICIAL crossing zones where people have meet ups (I guess there's a Harry Potter group that meets at La Brea now & again according to one of these Disneyland bookcrossers.. as well an Orange Country Meetup group (which I admit to recently joining) that comes together in different places now & again.Polar33 wrote:I can't speek for Disney, but I doubt that they would like this sort of activity happening on their property. A similar thing was done with Geocaching. When Disney learned that there were Geocaches on their property they immediately found them and removed them.
Is their a way to tell what the "success rate" of books set free at Disneyland is? I can't imagine it would be all too high, and that alone would convince me not to choose Disneyland as a location to drop off a book.
While I like the idea and if the proprieters don't mind, it's all well and good.. but I know DLR is private property.. and honestly it doesn't sit well with me. Why would you knowingly leave something if you knew it wasn't going where you had hoped?? As a CM I don't think it's a smart thing to do security wise.
