Abusive Parents

Hi!
I'm sure all of you CMs have had witnessed some parents being pretty darned abusive to their children. Friday night at the River Belle Terrace, I was on cash, and a lady and her 5 or 6 year old daughter walked up. The lady was ordering and her child REPETITIVELY asked "How much is the chicken? How much is the chicken?" and before I had a chance to fluff something up, the mom said "Gabby! SHUT UP!!!" and backhanded her across the head. The child moaned and fell over, then got up and refused to answer her mom when she asked what she wanted. The mom proceeded to rattle her and shake her and yell in her face and I was kinda sitting there dumbfounded  , and the one or two guests behind her were standing there agape. I have seen SO many of these cases. Wow. Do the parents not have any shame?! Taking their children to Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth, and backhanding them, pushing them, shaking them, screaming at them.... jeeze louise.

can't we call security, i'd say it was a guest assulting another guest, or just get APD there, "YO!, This Bitch is walloping her kid!"
Bad Parents

I've seen lost kids who were reunited with their parents and they smack the kid for wandering away. If I see it, I usually NSA a small plush and give it to the kid. I wish we could call on bad parents, but we can't. We did call one time and the parents (who didn't speak English) told us through a translator that it's how they handle things at home. God help those kids.

fine then, Citizen's Arrest, Disney Can't deny me my right to that, right, and if they do, i belive i can take legal, action, sorry if i had to bring a few guests back to reality, but hell, for this damn kid it's like magic, and well, that's worth it for me.

I remember a lost kid I had at the Mansion once. He was so afraid that his mom was going to be mad. I assured him that she wouldn't she would just be glad to find him. I wish that I knew how the kid got reuinted with his parents. I've told kids to get off something they were climbing and parents then screamed at the child to get off said object saying I was going to do something I never said. I usualy tell the guest "I didn't say that sir/ma'am, please don't put words in my mouth"

Guess a CM could inform security but nothing would be done!! Disney Land is honestly almost the only place a parent can hit, kick, trip, step on child's hands & feet, bloody child's face, absolutely kill all self-respect & still be smiled at while being given quality guest service. CMs sure see lots of NBA parents. :( Not a damn thing we can do!

I musta missed something in Orientation or on the job training. When were we told that we can't do anything about child abuse that happens right in front of our eyes? I'd found out after having seen a very badly treated child during a Character set that I could have security notified with a description of the parents and child. That was in 1987!
Has anyone been told by their lead/manager/trainer that CM's are supposed to look the other way when someone is attacked by another guest?

The only problem is that when you let security know about the issue they take forever to get to the location. I've had to wait over an hour on cases where the two guests were fighting right in front of me. Now I know that fighting is supposed to be a high priority, but it wasn't treated as such. All it seems like security cares about is when they get a shoplifting call.
Also whenever a CM is assaulted by security they attempt to cover it up and pressure the CM into not pressing charges.

With all the pressure to not leave Disneyland open for any kind of suit, isn't it all ironic when you figure that Disney must have the best lawyers around anywhere? There's the woman's son who was severly injured on Roger Rabbit's, the guy killed in '98 when the Columbia cleat tore off and hit him in the head, and other deaths throughout the years, and we never hear of how much the park settled for and we never again hear from the person - no 'tell all' book, TV appearance, nothing.

It's because the idiots settle. Sometimes they could get much more if they only went to trial. I don't know about Califorina, but in Florida many juries rule against Disney all the time. A friend's boyfriend is an attorney, and he always takes Disney to trial. The publicity of the trial looks bad for Disney, but hell they were in the wrong. Also on a side note I've been in arbitration grievances against Disney, and I've won them when their attorneys were fighting for them. Then again when you're right, you're right and there's nothing that they can do. No matter how good they are.
