Stupid Guests that think they are helping...

My friend and I went into Disneyland after we got off of work at DCA. We decided to go on "it's a small world" Holiday because he had never been on it with the holiday decorations. As we first went inside, the two boats in front of us got stuck. The people inside were kind of waiting patiently at first, then they decided to try to pull the boat to get it going again. It started to go and then got stuck again.

This stupid guy in front of us GOT OUT of the boat and started to pull it forward. The people inside his boat started cheering his stupidity! When it got stuck once again, he and another guy in the same boat that we were in both got out. They started to pull all of the boats. One of them just walked along the scenery while his boat kept going.

My friend and I were SO annoyed. Being ride operators, we knew that that wasn't safe at all, and granted we work on a roller coaster, not a slow paced boat ride, but it's still NOT safe. Why don't people realize that?!

As we were coming out, a CM (she looked like she was the lead) walked inside, I guess they noticed that the boats were taking a while to come back to the dock. She was talking to the boat in front of us and they told her that they had gotten out to pull the boat. She informed them that because they were pulling it, the computer did not read that there was a boat stuck, so as far as they knew, the boats were just going very slow. Some stupid lady behind us started saying that they should've realized it when there were no boats coming back. I was SO annoyed we could not believe that people would do something that stupid. Then again....

As it was happening, I just knew that I would be posting about it here!

Quick question for ANYBODY that works small world, are there NO cameras in there? I had heard that before, and the fact that no one yelled at us to remain seated kind of proved that fact. Also, how DO you know when the boats are stuck, not just slow?

You would think there would be cameras at least at all of the evacuation points throughout the ride or maybe even an intrusion monitor... but I guess not.

You would think, especially since it is such an easy ride to just hop off, but, nope.

From what I heard and seen, there are NO cameras in small world. I wouldn't blame them for wanting to get out of there but jumping out the pushing the boat, wow. Probably a good thing I don't work on small world because I would just rip into those people. :Flame:

That's how we felt. We were so mad at them. I wanted to say something, but as just a guest, what do you say? It's like when you see a kid on a wall when you aren't in costume, you can't really tell them to get off. *shakes head* some people.

Don't work on it, but have studied the one at WDW well.

Small World has no cameras inside. It also lacks intrusion mats to tell if some moron climbs out. Just before it went down for rehab, the PA system wasn't working except in the load/unload area.

The way operators know of a boat jam is to notice that there are no boats coming out. If the jam's in the next to last room, this can back up a whole lot of boats before it's obvious.

What's scary about guests climbing out of the boat at Disneyland is that the water is only a fiberglass trough and the sets are elevated above the same flat floor. (WDW has a concrete trough cast into the floor with very low sets.) It would be quite possible for a guest to fall between DL's channel and sets, much as some moron did at Haunted Mansion by Madame Leota once.

And at Small World, the moans of the injured would blend in with the sound track even better!

oh if they died, not that there is anything clever about dying on an attraction, espcially of stupidity, then we'd have another story to add to Ghosts thread.
