It's always about money.

Sounds like the trustees have a point about Brad's maturity.

Boy, you talk about a thankless job -- I wouldn't want to be one of those trustees. You release the monies and they are mishandled, and it's your fault. You withhold them, and you have to be able to justify a basically subjective decision in the absence of clear medical evidence.

There must be some story, there, though, since it seems like the only one they have withheld the payments from is Brad.

Whenever someone is in a position of power there will be someone else that wants to take them down. Add money, especially control of money, and the battles become very intense.

I got suckered into being president of our HOA. (Note to self: Do not ever buy another home/condo/hunk a land that's controlled by any type of board. Never. Ever.) Through good financial management we've managed to build up a healthy reserve after years having to deal with law suits that cost us about $1M.

We've got one owner that thinks we should have nothing in the bank so he attacks the board members every chance he gets. It looks like his strategy is to force members off the board so he can get elected and push his ideas. So far he's only managed to look really stupid in front of the other owners but he keeps trying.

They probably think they're doing you a favor when they walk in the door. And, because it's a really big favor, you should give them stuff for free.
