Stupid Corporation Tricks

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Because when I go to the movies, I want to be surrounded by people playing on their ipads.

Disney knows their audience and probably taps the kids for additional revenue.

interesting.
all they need is a digital system and they could have the audience partisipate with the story. sort of like a digital clue game.

If that trend catches on with other content producers/studios it will likely end my movie theatre visits. It seems like it's getting harder and harder for my wife and I to make it to the movies. We both agree we'd like to go more, but there's always something in the way, or there's nothing at the theatre that interests us when the stars align and we have the opportunity to go. Extended mobile device use would sap more of the experience away. I can't imagine that it doesn't have sounds, and Disney may assume the kids will be using ear buds or have the sound turned off, but all I see is a bunch of light pollution and sounds from the ones who want to hear the game.

It's an intriguing idea, but it should be limited -- like this -- to familiar re-releases for a special event, not for first-run movies. It only takes one screen glowing in the darkness to take me out of the experience.

I'm afraid this may set a precedent that we can't contain, but I'm ok with this concept in this instance. We've all seen the movie a million times, and so have the kids that will go. It seems fun to let them interact with the movie, especially if everyone is aware that this will be taking place in the theater beforehand. If you know going into the showing that there will be 3000 ipads glowing, then you can make a choice whether to go to that showing, or choose one where the "second screen" concept will not be used.

I don't want to see this concept in first run movies, but on a re-release, how fun.

Easy, don't go to the special "iPad" screenings :)

I don't see the usefulness of this. If they want to interact with the movie, why don't they have it on DVD-ROM with an interact feature, and stay home?

I agree. This is best for an at home version.
