We watched a sloth and her baby in a lodge in the Amazon about 20 years ago. They are amazing. She must have stuck around for an hour or so, fast mover, and then headed out. They are such fascinating creatures. It makes you appreciate nature.

Reminds me of the sloth they tried to keep at Animal Kingdom.

Every night, they checked that he was in his nest in his enclosure, but most mornings they found him somewhere else. They finally resorted to video cameras to see who was letting him out.

Turns out he was letting himself out. He would slowly climb down his tree to the ground, the run at a pretty astounding speed for the fence, which he then slowly climbed up, over, and down. The it was off to the races again to the next tree, and the next, until he found one he fancied, and slowly climbed up to explore, eat, and enjoy for the night.

AK crew finally gave up on trying to keep him in his enclosure, and he was sent to another zoo that had a full enclosure for him.

And that's why the Giant Anteater is alone in an enclosure with a fake sloth nest in one tree.

Who knew trying to keep animals was so difficult? Can't they just follow directions? Oh ya, about as well as the animals that call themselves humans.
