When rock really took off in the later half of the '60s in San Francisco, the place to hear the best music was Fillmore Auditorium. The Fillmore was the forerunner for Carousel Ballroom and Winterland.

One of the best bands I ever saw there was Spirit. Their drummer, Ed Cassidy, was an older guy who was really, really good.

Ed Cassidy dies at 89; drummer for band Spirit

RIP Ed. You were always great to listen too.

I remember this band! Randy California and Jay Ferguson. "1984, knocking at your door". "Mr. Skin, we know where you've been." Did a couple of them break off to form Jo Jo Gunne?

Jay Ferguson and the bass player Mark Andes started Jo Jo Gunne. Andes eventually became the bass player for Heart.
