Stupid Guest Tricks

Ive been investigating my commuting options from Downtown Orlando to Magic Kingdom. Now that my car is giving me some grief I had to step it up.

Majority of the time I have to be at the Turnstile breakroom by 7am. When I go by car I park at Westclock around 6:30am so I can take the bus and walk thru the tunnels.

The Lynx 50 bus leaves two blocks from my house and drops off right at the TTC. I realize I can't be in full costume and ride the monorail. I can't seem to find the definitive answer to what time the monorails start up. It am hearing 1 hour before park opening but is that just the express. I see guest arrive as early at 6:30 to the gates.

So here I am asking some experts and current/former monorail pilots. Does the Resort Monorail run sooner? Has anyone got to work via the TTC to MK? I am trying to figure out whats the earliest I could get to turnstiles early in the morning via monorail. I suppose if buses run earlier I could take the 50 to TTC and walk to the Poly to catch a resort bus to MK if they run earlier.

The monorail system is an interesting beast. Whether you can count on it at all really depends on the crew working that morning, what's been going on with the trains, the switches, lines, shop... I wouldn't rely on the Monorails early in the morning, or any other time, until you see the Mark VIII's come out.

Check to see if the Lynx 50 lays over at DU. I know the 56 and 111 do. Worst case, you might be able to transfer.

I've checked the Lynx web site, but it's not as abundantly clear as I might wish. You might be able to call them as well.

50 doesn't go all the way to DU. On Disney it stops at Downtown Disney on its way to and from TTC.

What kind of grief is your car giving you? Maybe it's something that can be easily fixed and then you won't have to worry about public transportation.

My car is starting that grand tradition of nickle and dime me. I get one thing fixed and then another thing goes. I just replaced the thermostat housing and then my alternator goes out.

That sucks. Alternators can be cheap or expensive depending on what your vehicle is. You might be able to find a cheap rebuilt one at Advance Auto, Pep Boys, or Autozone. They will even install it for you for a decent price, but you need to get the car to them to do that. If you are brave you can get a set of cheap sockets and do the job yourself. That will save you the shop labor charge which can be around $100 an hour. You just need to make sure the alternator belt is properly tensioned when you install it, so that it doesn't make the bearings (or another accesory being driven by the same belt) fail prematurely.
