Manta Abuse

Post by ifoundnemo » Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:29 am

I used to LOVE being a grouper on attractions... until I departed Disney and began working at Sea World. I'm now at Manta.

Yesterday, I had just stepped into position and my quick queue line was about a 1/3 down the steps from the loading platform. In order to get this line "killed" and out of the way, I began grouping to other rows than the "row 4 and 5 only" rule... in this situation, it's totally okay, and my supervisors agreed in the aftermath.

2 families began spazzing at me. Claiming I had no idea how to do my job, and I wasn't abiding by the "row 4 and 5 only" bullcrap. I started calm, explaining that they have priority and I had to get rid of the line... they then started freaking out further. In attempt to shut them up, I told them firmly to please calm down and let me do my job. This of course got them louder. Finally, I got them out of the way and hastily grouped them into random rows. As I did so, the bitchy teenage daughter of one of the groups looked at me and goes "Don't be rude."

The only rude person I saw there was her family and the other family, causing a scene while I'm trying to get people moving taking account that quick queue parties DO have priority.

What I SHOULD have said:

"I will get to you as soon as I can and if you decide to continue with your tone and behavior, I will be more than happy to call security and we can figure this out when they arrive."

"I will get to you as soon as I can, however, right now Quick Queue has priority (which I did say...) + If you think this is easy, I'd like you to stand here and group my next 5 trains. Keep in mind the following trains and rows have bypassed (unavailable) seats that that only accomodate 3 riders, as well as getting single riders situated, honoring requests for front and back row, and making sure every rider is tall enough to ride."

Or... the ever popular:

"Folks I do not come to McDonalds and tell you how to flip your burgers, so do not come to my workplace and tell me how to do mine."

Don't Worry, I'm sure their Superior Social Skills will serve them well in life
There is no winning with people like that....It really is some game where they automatically accuse the other person of heinous "crimes" in order to bully them. Wish I knew the proper term for the pathology....have seen it recently with a very bipolar patient who doesn't hesitate to use it on her Doctor and anyone else trying to help her

LOL... juicy! Though probably not the best idea.

See if you OG's (SOP's whatever you have there) mention not holding
vehicle dispatch to fill empty seats. Every Disney OG / SOP at every
park seems to mention this. Just for your piece of mind, anyways.

Now as for the guest.... short of a puppet show featuring "Mr. Ticky -
the dispatch interval stopwatch"... maybe just say "We're on a timer and
this one has to leave now so the next one can come in the station!"

They usually shut up when I tell them something like this.

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.

My sister and I have been on that ride a few times. W have seen the line when it gets long. I do remember seeing SG in line and bugging the employees. The last time I saw the group, security was kicking them out of the park for being drunk. A beer can make a guest stupid on a hot and humid day.

I actually had a guest @ Xcel like this. He was in line for the front car and it was a busy summer day.

We were getting trains out as fast as we could, but the front car is always longer than others. Apparently our work wasn't up to his exacting standards and he started to loudly comment about how we were lazy, stupid, etc.

This really didn't bother me until he decided to make a racist comment. I overheard what he said and after checking restraints I quickly walked up to him and politely asked that he refrain from using his colorful language in our line.

He looked at me and went "Pfft, f**k you."

I smiled and responded, "Congratulations, you've just been removed from our line and will not be riding this attraction."

When he attempted to get on the train, two ride ops promptly escorted him to the exit ramp, all while he kept yelling out "F**k this! This is bulls**t! F**k all you f**king f****ts."

I don't think he earned any friends that day... And he sure didn't get to go on the ride.

RIP Bud Hurlbut.

You will be missed.

I would hope security would have removed the jerk from the park.

Knott's security is not the greatest in the world. The only time they work at top effeciency is if it's important to make themselves look good, like when an employee is hurt in the course of performing their duties. Personal experience.
