CM Quartet rocking the Barbershop International

The BHS International Convention is this week in Kansas City -- and no, I'm not there; VM is sitting out of competition this time around (even though we were the top seed based on our qualifying scores). Quartet quarterfinals were held yesterday, and the buzz seems to be about a quartet formed just a few months ago. Their lead is Tony DeRosa, who I've mentioned here as a high-up in the WDW entertainment department and three-time quartet gold medalist (the last time with Max Q, a VM quartet).

The other three in this quartet -- tenor Roger Ross, bari Mike McGee, and bass Myron Whittlesey -- are, like Tony, all current or former Dapper Dans. The name of the quartet?

Main Street. :D:

They've made the top 20 semifinals, but even better, one attendee reported that Main Street was "the only quartet to receive an 'explosive' standing ovation for both their songs."

I have to admit, I'm torn about who to pull for now. I know Tony and love the Disney connection, but the favorites going into the competition were a quartet called Old School, whose bass Joe Krones is a member of VM. Also, Old School took silver the past two years (much like a certain chorus), so I'd hate to see them miss out again. (It's not a great feeling!)

Update: both Main Street and Old School are in the top 10. The Finals are tomorrow evening.

No, they're not going to announce it till the last show. No semifinals or sing-off or anything like that.

And... Old School takes the gold, after two years of silver. Main Street did earn a medal - always an amazing achievement for a new quartet, no matter who's in it - but it was a 5th-place bronze.
