Stupid Guest Tricks

is on HGTV tonight. I will be glued to my TV set, stuck on every vision and word. I'll also be a little green with envy. :D: Well, maybe a lot.

I've been following this show. I have to say as crazy as I am about Disney. I really do not think I would want a giant hat or teapot in my yard. It would be fun for the short term but I cant help but think of resale value. Just how many people in the world are willing to pay for a mickey shape pool?

It depends on how long you want to stay there -- if you're corporate gypsies or military, bad plan. If you're in the same home town as your family and will most likely stay put, not such a big deal. And a lot of the stuff is fairly cosmetic. My parents used to repaint and completely redo our houses to sell, and once they put it on the market, our houses always sold within two weeks at a good price, even when the realtor assured them this was impossible. :p:

The Mickey pool and perhaps the elephants are the two things I've seen that would be a challenge to work around, but it could be done. Most of the other stuff looks pretty surface - either tweak it so it's less Disney, or pull it out and plant some annuals or just sod over the area if it leaves a hole. The two tree house thingies with the rope bridge between them would add value in a lot of neighborhoods, and so would the pond and landscaping around the elephants. The elephants themselves might be fine some places, but they're definitely a "too quirky" risk.

Re: giant hats - I really know I do not want them anywhere, particularly the middle of the street blocking my view of the Chinese theater.

Re: fun in the short term - There's a neighborhood in a Chicago suburb where most of the yards have Disney displays for Christmas. Clearly, somebody in the neighborhood has some artistic skill and started by filling their own yard with floodlit, painted wooden cut-outs of characters from one Disney movie. Then practically everybody else in the neighborhood hired this person to do the same for them. Everyone has a different movie, and they all look great. Then the Christmas season is over, and they all go down. Perfect short term Disney yard fun! The 101 Dalmations display is a tad overwhelming, though.

I have to admit I actually like that hat in the park. Sure it doesnt fit into the themeing. Its just cool looking. A giant castle doesnt really fit the themeing of a quaint little american town but it sure works well.

But the castle 1. fits into the theming of Fantasyland, 2. IS the main visual feature when you walk in the park and 3. is not BLOCKING the main visual when you walk in the park. It can go be cool-looking somewhere else.

I dont understand why it cant be the Main Visual? Disney made a mistake. Ok so "orginally" Grummans Chinnese Theatre was the "Castle" but Disney but disney is always changing and I think the Hat is an improvement. Yes the theatre is cool looking but its not really special. If I took a picture of the theatre some Mr. joe schmo in Left foot Indiana might not know if its WDW or Hollywood but I bet if you took a pic of the hat they would at least know its at WDW. Just saying.

Which suburb? I live in the Chicago suburbs and I'd be curious to see this.

It's in Carol Stream, but I wouldn't be able to say which neighborhood.

To another Disney fan it might be a plus. I would buy a house with a Mickey shaped pool.

Never really got the hat either. It does seem sort of in the way.
