No, not me. (I wish!) This is a clip of a story from the Waco (TX) Tribune-Herald. (The full story is behind their paywall.) My parents know this lady, so if any of you see her on the job treat her nicely!
Woodway woman to live Disney dream
Walking around an amusement park in a heavy, hot costume seems like a grueling summer job, but 62-year-old Bonnie Luft is jumping at the opportunity. Especially because she’ll get to hang out with world-famous figures like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, or dine with an enchanted princess or two. The Woodway woman was selected to join the “cast of characters” at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., performing as one of the park’s beloved fictional characters.
It’s the dream of a lifetime that Luft thought she might never achieve.
“People audition all the time for this, several times, and I just never thought it would get this far!” Luft said, squealing with excitement. “My life has been a whirlwind for the last week.”
Luft is leaving for her new summer job today, making the two-day trek by car to Orlando with her husband, Gary, who will then fly back to Waco. She starts Disney orientation next week and will then find out which character she will portray.
“It just shows that dreams don’t go away just because we get older,” said Gary Luft, the director for the Area Agency on Aging. “She had a dream and she acted on it, and it’s worked out.”
...
She’s a part-time lecturer at Baylor University and teaches a class called “Death and Dying.” Some of the assignments she gives to students cover personal life timelines, future goals and ambitions, and of course the “Bucket List” — things one wants to accomplish before he or she “kicks the bucket.”
Of course, I read this and cringe at all the talk about such things as "costumes" and "fictional characters," but how cool is it that she's doing this at 62?!
