Stupid Guest Tricks

Hello everyone. New cast member ( just over a month ) and first post. I work on the Friendship boats at EPCOT. I can’t believe in just under a month the amount of stupid guest tricks I have seen. Here are a few.
A little background on our boats. The boats run from EPCOT’s International Gateway, and go to three hotels ( Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach club resort, and The Swan & Dolphin. ) then on to the Studios. The order is reversed once the boat leaves the Studios to go back to EPCOT.

First: A woman and her family board the boat at the Studios. Once the family gets to EPCOT the woman starts to yell at one of the captains. I was not on the boat, so I walk up and listen in. The woman is outraged that we did not stop at Saratoga Springs. She knows that she took a boat from Saratoga Springs to the Studios. ( There are no boats that go from Saratoga to Studios. Also there are signs at each dock that tell you where the boat goes to. ) The captain who she was yelling at kept telling her that, but this woman would not have it. She knows she is 100% right and the captain is wrong. There are Sassagoula boats that run in Downtown Disney that go to Saratoga, but they look nothing like our Friendship boats.

The boat is now unloaded and we need to load the new guest, but can’t until the dock is clear of all guest. Well when this woman was asked to move off the dock and continue her conversation past the gates. That’s when all hell broke loose. These are her words. “ I have been here for over a week and let me tell you. The Janitors have been great. The maids have been so friendly, but you boat captains have been nothing but jerks. I don’t think I will ever come back. " Then she asked if she walked over to the Boardwalk if she can get back to Saratoga Springs. We tell her yes. You can catch a bus to Downtown Disney, and then hop on a BOAT to her hotel. With that she storms off with her family.

Second: Working on the World Showcase Lagoon, we load a family with a sleeping child in a stroller. My deckhand tells them they need to take the stroller to the back of the boat and place it behind the last set of seats. ( That area is handicap and stroller storage. ) Well the family ignores my deckhand and takes the stroller in the middle of the boat blocking the aisle. I tell the family you need to move the stroller in the back because it’s blocking the aisle, and that is a safety hazard. They look at me like I have a foot sticking out of my ear.

I tell them once again to move the stroller, because it’s a safety hazard. This time they tell me “ The baby is sleeping. “ At this point I can tell this is going to be tough to get the people to listen, so I tell them. " If there is an emergency and we need to evacuate the boat, people will be trampling over your sleeping child to get out. I will not move this boat until the stroller is stored in the correct place." Well with a humph, and grumbling they woke the child and stored the stroller. I tell you if looks could kill. I’m sure they went to guest relations and complained, so I’m waiting to hear about that.

Those are a few I can think of right now. I’m sure I will have more soon.

Congrats on your very new job. I wish you many happy years of working there. I don't post here much, (it's my training for when I get hired), but welcome to this site.

Some of the SGTs surprise even me, an SG. :D: Having been to WDW more than 100 times in the last 10 years, I'm still baffled by some of the ridiculous sights and verbage.

When you're faced with these fine people that insist they took the boat from SS to Studios, can anyone tell me what happens if you agree with them and apologize profusely? I know you can't offer a taxi or a limo, but can you offer that they try the bus this time? Just curious ...

Welcome to the family! Yes folks, there is an under ground walk way to TSI. :D:

A personal welcome from this Wallaby, since you work in the same area as my wife (well, really, really close, anyway...) and the chances of us seeing each other are very high. So if you see me out on the rental pontoon harassing the Lake Patrol Cast on Crescent Lake, give me the SGT wave. It's very similar to Kungaloosh, but with our own special twist. Since we don't do too many live meetings here, it's rather hard to show you.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Before it ever gets back to you, it has to go through your managers, and they know the rules, and why they are there. I don't think you'll ever hear about it, assuming they DID take the energy to go talk to GR.

Of course, before it gets to your GSM, it goes through GR, and there is a chance that that Cast Member has either worked in transportation or some other safety role.

Again, deal with it if it comes to that. All the times driving a bus I thought someone would go to them, only one did, and by the time it got back to me I got an attaboy from my manager for doing the right thing.

Strollers are a well-known issue around these parts.

Oh I will try and give you a wave. Just don't try and cut our boats off with a mouse sprite, or what ever the hell those things are. Almost took out a couple of kids the other day who thought they would play chicken with our boat. Lake patrol took care of them.

Hi Friendship & WELCOME! BW is correct 98% of the time. GR has a "Round File" which they wisely & often use. Don't worry.
