Stupid Guest Tricks

Well, reapply, anyhow ...

My ability to apply for a position at Disney has reopened. I last applied for Seasonal Food and Wine, not knowing that it would basically nullify my aplication once that time was over. This time, I'm thinking about applying so custodial, since they probably have a higher turnover rate than most areas. Or, perhaps housekeeping. I'd just like to make sure the application at least stays active the entire period it can be in there.

Also, the cast member whose information I had a referral no longer works as Disney, as she moved away last month. Does having that referral help me that much, to the point where I should put another one on there, or will it not make a huge difference, and I should just proceed without it?

I don't speak any languages to give me a boost, and I've been out fo the workforce for nearly 9 years now. My husband feels that doing custodial work is "beneath" me, but I don't share his opinion. I asked him exactly what he thinks my cleaning role of being a stay-at-home mom really is ...

You Know, some of my favorite conversations have been with Custodial CMs, many of who(m) had full careers before retiring and going to work for DLR. They are an equal part of the Magic :)

The referral is more for their sake than yours, certain positions get bonuses if they hire people you sent. As far as staying active in the system, just mark that you would be willing to do anything you would. I know housekeeping especially needs FTers right now, and I'd bet food/bev and custodial do too.

I applied and made it all the way to the actual interview. That was the first week of March.
I was hired, but put on waiting list as there were no immediate openings in merchandise or front desk. I gave open availability and requested part time or casual.
My recruiter told me my application would stay active for 60 days then I could extend it for another 30 if I had not been called and was still interested in the position.
My question is...How long is a normal wait list time? Trying not to get discouraged. Would they have hired me without at least anticipating they would be hiring soon?

The challenge is that there aren't that many CR openings in front desk (probably not in merch either, but I don't work there). Any chance you could go full-time for six months, then go part-time? Might be a way in.

Failing that, I'd suggest you take a different position, just to get in. After six months, you can bid on any open position and the Company will consider you before any new hires.

The fact that they put you on a list says a lot though. They usually don't have such lists, which is why I can't guess how long you might be on it. Frankly, you're likely waiting for enough CPers to screw up.

To accelerate things, you could always visit the shops and hotels you are most interested in, and ask to speak to a manager. Tell them you're looking to get in, and that you've been put on hold, and if one takes a liking, they might just convert a FT opening into a CR opening for you.

Not saying it's likely, but if you're out of work, why not use the excuse to get to know folks? Couldn't hurt.
