The only flaw ktulu,is that Gene wilder never played the Mad Hatter. (I think?)
BUT,it's gotta be the Depp 'Wonka'
(gotta love a guy who walks into plate glass full speed. :D :)

I thought about that, but still needed to know which version I am dealing with :) I prefer the Wilder version, less spaced out.

Ah, inner turmoil? I'd go with Hatter then.

I was tempted to make a comment along the lines that if both Depp characters took each other out, we all won, but that seems a bit unfair. I haven't seen him in "Alice in Wonderland", so I really shouldn't try to judge that only by the clips I've seen. As to his performance as Willy Wonka, well, there are pieces I liked, but I have to admit, overall he comes off as just plain creepy. Now, I've heard it said that the movie is closer to the book, but there was something off-putting about the whole thing, and Depp's Wonka didn't do anything but add to that uncomfortable feeling. Just my opinion, of course.

I felt that the Wonka character was originally intended to be creepy. I mean this guy had some issues. I enjoyed the movie even though I liked the Gene Wilder one very much as well.

I watched it because I wanted to see if Depp carried any part of himself in his different characters, you know, could you see some connecting mannerisms or speech. My comparison of course was with Capt. Jack. Know what? Could not find a single thing that struck me as similar. That's pretty good acting, I think.

I'd go with Wonka in a fight (Either version even though I like Gene Wilder's better) because he has that Oompa Loompa army to back him up..
