Stupid Guest Tricks

I had my first SGT moment outside of the parks yesterday. I am a Girl Scout leader. Our service unit (all girl scouts in our town and the next town over) holds a father/daughter event each year. For the last two years I have planned and hosted a pinewood derby style race. We had 27 father/daughter teams race this year. My mom and 12 year old sister came to help and they commented on the rudeness and entitlement of the adults.
Each of the girls was to build one and only one car to race. Well one little girl (4th grade) made two and wanted to race them to find out which was faster so she could win more. I told her out right no. She didn't mind but her dad was pissed. His kid should get the best opportunity to win. Another kid (a little brother of one of our scouts) threw up 4 times and his mom won't take him home because she had to take pictures of "sissy". My mom ran the kitchen while my sister and i set up the trophies and prizes. According to my mom less than 5 kids said please and/or thank you. The meal was a chili Mac (a hoosier staple)buffet. One of the mom's yelled at my mom because no one was serving her or her rude children. Only 4 of the kids waited in line. Of course all of them were in my troop. All I have done is tell them how disappointed I am in them when they get in trouble and they follow all my rules.
We had parents cutting each other off during the races so that they could get all the good shots. Sometimes even pushing other people out of their way. We had to yell twice to get the adults quite during the award ceremony. We also had to mop the floor where the kid threw up. We put up the caution wet floor sign. Well a girl ran through it and my mom yelled at her she just rolled her eyes. It was just a combo of idiots.

This only happens once a year,,,right?

Good night!! I don't think I'd be hosting that event again, and I think I'd send a note to the service unit leader to pass on to the other leaders about how rude their girls were and how this is not how Girl Scouts should be representing themselves. Obviously they are learning it from the parents, but I'm afraid the adults are a lost cause.

First off I will run it again next year. Just like I have read on here the rudeness and entitlement will drive you nuts and then some kid will run at you with open arms, hug you, and thanks you for doing what you have done. The highlight of the evening was when one of my girls Kate won second place in her division. She got braces 6 months ago and I haven't seen her smile really since then. When I handed her her trophy and prizes she was grinning ear to ear.
I am going to address the rudeness at our next service unit meeting. How should I fraise my points, remembering that my service unit's chairwoman is the one whose son was throwing up.

Perhaps with a call for a new chairwoman, since the current one is not able to provide a good example for the other parents?

I wish. Since it is a volunteer position and takes a lot of work noone wants the job including me. 99% of the volunteer positions that are held in scouting are held by parents. It drives me crazy. They often are only looking out for what their kids want/need. Both of my sisters dropped out of scouting because the leader only did projects that her daughter wanted to do.
