New droids in Star Tours

Post by Disneyguy85 » Sat Sep 25, 2010 1:29 am

From the DisneyParks blog. This was also announced at Destination D today;

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/

"Our design team created a new Tour Droid for the show, an AC Series pilot we dubbed “Ace,” with a personality as different from Rex as you can imagine.

We also created a new “spokesbot” for Star Tours, modeled after the WA-7 “Waitress Droid” from the Attack of the Clones. George Lucas suggested the name “Aly San San,” in reference to Allison Janney, the wonderful actress who provides the voice for this new character. We had a terrific time with Allison in the recording sessions for the show – she brought a lot of warmth and humor to the part."

I'm working on a custom action figure of "Ace" or AC-38, as we speak.

RIP Bud Hurlbut.

You will be missed.

By the way, in case some have not heard;

At Destination D, Disneyland president George Kalogridis revealed that the new Star Tours will have 54 different experiences.

You know what? Give me one good ride and I'll keep comin' back for the next 20 years.

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

So, if they give you 54 good rides, you'll come back for the next 1080 years!

Seriously, yes, one good ride is better than a bunch of variations of a mediocre ride. However, I will reserve making any sort of disparaging comments unless I have reason to believe the end result will be sub-par.

I think that as long as Jar Jar is not featured, then most people will be happy. ;)

One of the reasons they chose to set the new ride in-between episodes 3 and 4 is so they could use fan favorite characters and locales.

I've heard that Frank Oz recorded some lines for Yoda to be used in the new ride.

I can do one better, AND feature Jar Jar. He gets hit by the speeder, squished up on the windshield and wiped off with windshield wipers to the cheers of everyone on board...
