Tell me the truth

I have heard (somewhere along the way in all my forum reading), that if you encounter a grumpty CM at WDW, that you can take your fingers and pinch them together. Then draw an invisible string from the top of your head upwards to remind them to put on a smiling face. While doing this, you are supposed to offer the grumpy CM a smile.
Is this true or is it one of those weird rumors that float around the internet?
I read this "over there" so please tell me do you accept this?

Had to sub because I'm following that thread over there. It would be nice to see how this is handled from the "other side".

If you offer the "grumpty" CM a smile they'll just come back for more later.
Give them baked goods/candy in a bag. Oh wait...
Alcohol then?

Pretty sure that's a weird rumor.
The best way to get somebody to smile is to smile at them, not give them instructions!
(I am NOT going into a rant about rude men on the street ordering me to smile. Not not not.)

Allow me, then!
Even if, for some reason only known to management, Cast Members have been instructed to respond to such a gesture, I would advise against it. I, personally, have always been against any place making an official policy that employees MUST smile 100% of the time. While, yes, employees should be friendly, or at least professional, they are human beings. That means they are going to, on occasion, not be in a mood to put on a grin. When in such a mood, I very much doubt being told that they should smile more is really going to make them suddenly give an ear-to-ear grin, singing and dancing down the street. Giving them a sincere smile usually is the best course of action.
Of course, if they are so grumpy they are down-right rude, then it is time to say something. Not to the employee, but to someone higher on the food chain.

If someone did that to me, I'd look at you like you were crazy.
If CMs would be fired because they didn't smile all the time, Disney would lose a lot of people, and then they will be desperate to hire again. Who are they going to end up hiring again? More non smiling people. It's a vicious cycle.

As a guest,I know that although Disneyland is "Home" to me, the CMs are not MINE to command! A little overbearing to try to make everybody conform to
what I think should be happening. WOW.
I had a patient chew me out recently because I didn't want to conform to something that would have been unsafe for her, her child, and me.Instead of allowing me to explain why I needed her to do what I asked, she yelled at me that "I needed to show compassion". Um-yeah. I excused myself.
She did what was needed for the next nurse, guess she saw that things weren't going to work her way ;)

Strangely enough, everyone "over there" seems to agree that this is rude, condescending, and completely inappropriate. And for once they're right.

awww.... c'mon... Not everyone who posts on Board X is an SG.
I can't imagine anyone thinking this would be an appropriate thing to do.
