Reservation for 2 but 4 show up

We are heading down to the world in a few weeks. We have dinner reservations at the Yachtsman one night for 2. There is a chance there might be 4 of us. I called WDW-DINE to try and change the reservation but they said they couldn't do it there. They suggested we just show up and the restaurant would accommodate us, but that doesn't sound cool to me. What do the people on here think. I REALLY don't want to be a SG!!!

I have been to that restaurant. We did add 2 more to our group and they said it was fine. It depends on what date you have reservations on. Lunch time is slow, I don't know about dinner.

I had the same thing happen on my last trip -- had ressies at Ohana for six and called to see if we could add an extra person. They gave us the same "just show up" line... but I'm not sure the Ohana greeter liked that advice -- she got us our table for seven but huffed about it.

It was worth the trouble, though, since our extra person was my brother marsupial Wallaby!

Just get him to hypnotize the greeter to be happy about it.

Ohana is so hard to get in to via an ADR I just show up at opening prepared to wait an hour. It completely is worth it though.

Going from 1, 2, or 3 to 4 is commonly easy, as most restaurants don' t have tables smaller than 4-tops, with 2-tops being a rare commodity.

Growth beyond 4 can be problematic. If you try this, be prepared to wait up to two hours or to simply be denied. Ain't no guarantees in this life, even if A La Carte says so, and especially if it doesn't.

Wondering what the reverse of this is? Have an adr for 3 and someone not hungery and 2 show up? They would still seat you wouldn't they? We have never had this happen, but you never know.

We do that all of the time. We make ADRs for how ever many of us there are, usually about 10 to 15, and then we gather and count. If people aren't there or just don't want to go, we just let the CM greeter know. They've never complained or even acted put out.

As someone that was a server for a long time, whatever you do - please be gracious about it and realize you may wait. It's easy to add two chairs to a 2 top table if it accomodates 4 but for those going from 4 to 5 - that's a potential problem.
I just hated it when someone came in with two extra people and acted like a crabby child because they had to wait 20 minutes for me to a find a table to accomodate the additions.... :) Hey - I'm the one sticking to the original reservation, don't get mad at me!

We actually did this a couple of times on our last trip. During the trip, each one of us go so sick, we just stayed in the hotel room. Since we didn't know moment to moment who was going to feel alright, we just let all the ressies stand and told the host/hostess when we arrived at the restaurant. No big deal...especially when we told the WHY we had lesser people (trust me, sick people + restaurant does not equal a good time had by all).

I have been actually asked by CMs when I couldn't get a reservation for 2,"Could you possibly be a party of 3?" I took this to mean say you're a party of 3,get the reservation, show up at the restaurant with your party of two and say the other person decided not to come and everything will be okay.
