Daniel Schorr will not be on the radio at breakfast

Legendary and much celebrated journalist Daniel Schorr passed away last Friday at the age of 93. A natural workaholic, he didn't even leave work early that afternoon. An annoyance to every administration since Eisenhower, he considered his inclusion on Nixon's "Enemies List" one of his proudest achievements. He was also one of a generation of reporters we don't have many of these days -- people who do their research, know the relevant history and personalities, and thus are able to present the news in context. It's a dying art, and one that's measurably impoverished by his death.

Paul Harvey last year, and Daniel Schorr this year. Are there any good reporters left?

So very few (see my media-related rant from a couple of threads ago). Journalism used to be a well-regarded profession; these days, it's nothing but sensationalist hacks. I sometimes feel dirty after working with what passes for a "journalist" these days. :(
