Hey, gang - I get a daily newsletter with story opportunities from various editors and publications for us PR types. Today's edition contained the following query; if you're interested in participating or know someone who is, the dude's contact info is at the bottom. DISCLAIMER: I have no vested interest in this opportunity and don't know this editor personally but in my business, it just never hurts to have an editor owe ya one. ;)
EDIT: The query notes that you can contribute anonymously - no name required.
Media Outlet: Online Travel Website
Deadline: 08:00 PM EST - 29 July
Query:
I am interested in hearing from people who have worked as
characters (Mickey, Cinderella, Sponge Bob, whatever) at Disney
or Universal. You can speak anonymously, but I want to hear what
the job is like from someone who's done it. Please email:
[email protected] THANKS!

good luck, a disney charactor is forbidden to speak to the press about this stuff without the companys permission.

Good to know; I just thought I'd pass this along as it sounded like something fun someone may have wanted to participate in. I definitely don't want to see anyone getting in trouble though, d'oh!

There are plenty of former character performers out there who aren't bound by Disney's rules.

Apparently the editor is having a hard time sourcing his story; in other words, he has no idea where to look to find CMs who may have been characters previously or are currently, hence his newsletter query. I'd think a little Google work would've done the trick but eh, that's just me. Maybe he's no good at Google?

Or maybe, like my brother's friend who was a CP friend of a Princess, many of them take the confidentiality serious enough that years after leaving, they still won't cop to being more than "close friends" with the characters, even in purely adult company, hundreds if miles from Florida.
*Shrugs.*

I happen to think that's cool when they still keep the mystery (as far as the press goes- on the odd occasion I have met 'friends' of characters and figured it out, a knowing wink may have been exchanged and returned but it never detracted from the magic for me- press is a whole other animal as you all know better than anybody else). I think it shows how much they loved the job- even with its trials and tribulations...

I know a guy who was goofy some 20+ years ago. Had a falling out with his daughter a few years ago (almost married her) so I have no easy way to get him the info. And that was probably more info than any of you needed. :p
