Looks familiar--when I worked at Knott's, I used to think, the management/shift leaders are pinning the needle on my BS detector. Pinning the needle=what's going on with the needle on that graphic; it's "pinned" to the high side of the scale. But I'd still like to see a emoticon for that.

we used to use the term "pegged"
as in "we pegged the output power of the transmitter but still didn't make contact"
and later:
my G.A.S.* gage is pegged.
* Give A ...Shoot, yeah, thats it "Shoot"
